Hillary is No Sarah Palin

TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) I'LL HAVE A COLUMN TITLED "HILLARY IS NO SARAH PALIN." This column basically wound to an end after the election of 2008, but I realize it is still drawing a few visitors every day. I'd like to thank you for coming and reading. Hillary Clinton has spent a lifetime accepting, rationalizing, and even defending (yikes) her husband's chronic adultery and abusive behavior toward women. Many Hillary Supporters are now spending their lives defending HRC's decision to value her career over her country. Sarah Palin is a woman who turned in her own Party's state chairman for ethics violations. Hillary Clinton has never done anything remotely comparable in her career. The sad thing is that most of Hillary's Supporters have much higher standards for themselves than they do for their tinsel heroine.

Hillary Clinton's Actions: Disgraceful, Despicable

Let's see: during the Democratic Primaries, Obama branded both Clintons as racists -- and added that Mrs. Clinton was a warmonger and a liar. So, both of them are now wildly campaigning for their tormentor -- the man Mrs. Clinton labeled as no more than "a speech he gave in 2002." Yes, Barack Obama is an empty suit, but, well, he's also a Democrat.

I sent the following to one of "Hillary's" staunchest supporters -- a woman who, unlike her political "heroine" -- is now campaigning for McCain-Palin.

I would like to say that I think it's time you and other former Hillary Supporters step up to the plate and label her actions on behalf of Obama for what they are: disgraceful, despicable, and immoral. I realize Hillary's Supporters demand almost nothing from her, and she certainly lives down to their expectations.

If this is the real Hillary, she would make a terrible President. She's a weak person, easily intimidated and totally focused on her absurd "career." It is a career based totally on riding on the coattails of men with no respect for her -- Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

John McCain and Sarah Palin have been completely respectful of her. In return, she's joined Barack Hussein Obama, Chicago politician, heaping garbage on them.

Clearly, she values Party over County, and that's not exactly a quality we want in a person that might occupy the White House.

For the past several months, since the end of the Democratic primaries, I've been watching Hillary Clinton -- a heroine to some -- with a mixture of dismay and disgust. She has been enthusiastically endorsing the man, Barack Obama, who branded her as a warmonger, a liar, and a racist.

It's really shameful. But it's also the continuation of a pattern. For 30-years plus she's been in a marriage of convenience with a man who's a chronic adulterer. Frankly, that is a form of abuse and a source of continuing humuliation. I'm not a psychiatrist, but somehow Mrs. Clinton seems to feel that humiliation by men is her due. Some people won't like my saying that, but in fact it's rather obviously true.

Mrs. Clinton endorses Obama for much the same reason that she stayed with Bill Clinton, her permanent abuser. In some part of her being, she expects powerful men to mistreat her, and in that regard, they don't let her down.

If she had divorced Bill, that would ended her chances for the presidency -- and probably even for the Senate. She hangs around to get ahead. She's become a professional rider of Bill's coattails, a woman who seems to have no life of her own.

Hillary is one of those sad political cases who believes "there's no life outside the Beltway." For her, that absurd belief just may be true, if we can call what she has "a life."

A friend of mine -- a good friend -- from Texas has tried to explain Hillary's behavior this way: "They [Obama? his minions? the Chicago boys?] threatened her. They threatened her daughter [Chelsea]. They even threatened her mother!"

I don't buy it. How does anyone threaten former First Lady, one under constant Secret Service protection? When HRC takes a shower, there's someone outside the bathroom, listening to make sure she doesn't fall. I don't believe for a minute that anyone threatened her. I believe she does what she does because she's a weak human being.

She obviously values her Party over her Country. She obviously values her career over any character she may once have had. She's a sad spectacle. She doesn't deserve to be President. She doesn't even deserve to be a U.S. Senator.

Recently, in an interview with CNBC's Maria Bartiromo, Bill Cliton gave his initial opinion of Sarah Palin. And it's glowing.

Clinton said, "She’s an instinctively effective candidate. And with a compelling story. And she grew up, came up in a political culture, a religious culture that is probably well to the right of the American center. But she didn’t basically define herself in those terms.

"She basically said: 'Look, this is where I come from. I’m not going to impose this on you. This is what I want to do and I think we can all be a part of.' So she handled herself very well."

Thus, according to Bill, Sarah has a record of placing the needs of the electorate above her personal beliefs. Someone I can trust to put the needs of our country above the needs of her party. A refreshingly accurate portrayal for a change.

And her abilities as a leader? Need I say more? Bill is impressed.

He says, "But I get why she’s done so well. It’s a mistake to underestimate her. Her intuitive skills are significant."

BILL CLINTON CAN'T ENDORSE OBAMA

Can Bill Clinton support Obama? He certainly can PRETEND to do so. But he's cant -- in good conscience -- support a man who although with his surrogates and media toadies labeled his wife a warmonger, a liar, and a racist. He especially can't endorse a man who, along with his top advisers, branded Bill Clinton himself a racist. Seemingly, just about anything is possible in politics, but some things that are possible are not plausible -- such as forgiving a former opponent for despicable conduct.

The following CNN story suggests why you should take with a grain of salt any suggestion of an endorsement of Obama by the Clintons. A man who plays the worst form of racial politics, Obama, should not be a serious candidate for President.

Former president Clinton campaigned for his wife in Pennsylvania recently.

(CNN) — On the eve of Tuesday’s critical Pennsylvania primary, former President Bill Clinton accused Barack Obama’s campaign of playing the race card against him.

After the phone interview with Delaware radio station WHYY Monday night, a stray comment of his on the issue was also recorded before he hung up: “I don’t think I should take any s*** from anybody on that, do you?”The former president had been asked whether his remarks comparing Obama’s strong showing in South Carolina to that of Jesse Jackson in 1988 had been a mistake given their impact on his wife Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

“No, I think that they played the race card on me,” said Clinton, “and we now know from memos from the campaign and everything that they planned to do it all along.”

“We were talking about South Carolina political history and this was used out of context and twisted for political purposes by the Obama campaign to try to breed resentment elsewhere. And you know, do I regret saying it? No. Do I regret that it was used that way? I certainly do. But you really got to go some to try to portray me as a racist.”

He added that the way Obama’s campaign had reacted was “disrespectful to Jesse Jackson” and that the former presidential candidate had told him he was not offended, and that “we all know what’s going on."

UPDATE: At a Pittsburgh press availability,

Obama was asked about Clinton's charge that his campaign had drawn up plans to use 'the race card.'“Hold on a second,’’ he said. “So former President Clinton dismissed my victory in South Carolina as being similar to Jesse Jackson and he is suggesting that somehow I had something to do with it? You better ask him what he meant by that. I have no idea what he meant. These were words that came out of his mouth. Not words that came out of mine.’

On the meeting between Bill Clinton and Barack Obama: Are we really to believe that the substance of the two men's discussion was Bill's advice that Barack use the same Mud Machine on Sarah Palin previously employed successfully against Hillary Clinton. That would be too cynical even for Beltway politics -- wouldn't it? Joseph Conrad wrote a novel about people's descent into evil -- "The Heart of Darkness" -- and both men should read it.

I have a report from a credible source that Bill Clinton at the end of the Democratic primaries was talking enthusiastically about "President McCain." I'm trying to get permission to reprint the material I received. The problem is that it could possibly compromise a political operative who's now working hard to defeat Obama . That's all I can say right now, but I'm sure there will be more in the coming days.

Frankly, as part of an Obama Campaign strategy, Bill Clinton's reputation was serious tarnished in the Democratic Primaries. He obviously wants to speak his mind on that subject. Holding him up on doing so is his desire not to anger the current poohbahs (Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, Nancy Pelosi, and others) in the Party. Frankly, Bill needs to stop pretending that all is well in the Democratic Party. (He might start by scrolling down and reading my piece about how the historic Democratic Party no longer exists.)

Bill Clinton has said that Obama -- and the Obama Campaign -- used the "race card" against him. He's also suggested they used it against his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton. In that assessment, the former President is right on target. Obama is now obviously trying to use race against John McCain -- the remarks about his [Black] face on the currency being the latest example. The Obama Campaign has long been trying to spread the idea that a vote against him is a vote for racism -- something they believe will scare Democrats into voting for Party rather than country.

It's time -- and it's almost past time -- for Bill and Hillary to step up to the plate. They need to renounce Barack Obama before the Denver Convention. Bill has said he'll be ready to speak out on November 5. That may be too late. Bill needs to speak NOW from his heart and head.

THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE

Hillary would be shunned by the Party if she came out against Obama. Many years ago John F. Kennedy wrote a book (with Ted Sorensen) called "Profiles in Courage." I want HRC and WJC to earn a place in such a future book.

My argument has always been that there the Party of FDR, JFK, and HST does not exist anymore. Of course, Harry Truman knew that by going into Korea to stop the North's invasion that he would be vilified and probably could not win re-election in 1952, by which time not 4,000 American had been killed, but rather 50,000.In 1952, Truman's "approval rating" was much lower than Bush's is now. The nuns at my elementary schools made an (unprecedented) announcement that President Truman would not run again.

As for Roosevelt, he came near to risking impeachmnet by going against Congress to assist Great Britain prior to Pearl Harbor. It is now the Party of Donna Brazile, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Claire McCaskill, John Kerry, Robert Casey, Harry Reid, Richard Durbin, and Barack H. Obama.

There is not some other idealized, Platonic (Democratic) Party that exists apart from such people. Right now, it is able to do harm -- as in blocking any sort of decent energy policy -- but it is not yet able to dominate every aspect of American society. That will of course change if Barack H. Obama is elected President and then of course re-elected by an increasingly dependent society in 2012. "I would rather lose an election than lose a war." (John McCain)

I believe there some Democrats -- Mary Landieu of La is one, Joe Lieberman of CT is another -- who would say something similar (not on the War perhaps but on anything), yet there are not enough.

Some of my dear friends in Beaver County (pro-life, pro-God, pro-guns, the ones Obama despises) are preparing to vote for a candidate because he -- Obama -- is "the Democrat." They persist in the illusion that the Party of JFK still exists. It doesn't, and it shows no signs of reappearing.

Hillary, Bill MUST Denounce Obama

"I'd rather lose the presidency than lose a war." (John McCain)

For use in the General Election, it's important to have on hand all statements by HRC and President Clinton critical of Barack Obama -- his inexperience and his use of the "race card" in an attempt to destroy Bill Clinton. Nothing that is said in a campaign -- at least nothing that's not retracted or sincerely apologized for -- can be dismissed as not relevant.

I hope the McCain Campaign uses the "3 a.m. red phone call" ad and explains precisely what it means in the context of Sen. Clinton's statement that "I have a lifetime of experience. Sen. McCain has a lifetime of experience. Sen. Obama has a speech [questioning the wisdom of the Iraq War] in 2002."

Bill Clinton accurately accused the Obama Campaign -- and the candidate -- of using the "race card" (basically, claims that President Clinton was a racist) to win the nomination. I believe Sen. McCain should use those comments as a centerpiece of his campaign against Obama.

I call on Sen. Clinton -- and I hope everyone else will do the same -- to denounce the campaign of Barack H. Obama. Country must come before Party, frankly, or else it turns politics into the sleaziest game imaginable. As with Sen. McCain in Vietnam and as a POW, country must come ahead of one's "career opportunities." McCain risked both his "career," which clearly meant little to him -- and his life, as President Clinton observed in a memorable speech.

At this point in our country's history, Sen. Clinton has a moral obligation to take steps that probably will destroy her aspirations to become President. It's what I would do, and I believe it's what everyone reading this piece would do. "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask rather what you can do for your country."

Should the nation adopt "The Ostrich Position?"

Hillary Clinton is faced with a real problem. On her Saturday "endorsement" of Senator Obama's presidential bid what's she going to say about Obama's qualifications? That she was "only kidding" when she said he was NOT ready to be President. Was what she said about the Illinois Senator being an inexperienced windbag only "politics as usual?" Is her main loyalty to her country -- or to some political Party that has rejected her? She said that Obama's platitudinous campaign rested mainly on a "speech he gave in 2002." Was that true, or was it not?

These are all hard questions that should be asked. But the national media, focused mainly on trivialities is not going to put any pressure on Mrs. Clinton. Why? Because to do so would harm (in minor ways perhaps) the Obama Campaign. NBC didn't become known as the "National Barack Channel" for no reason.

On Saturday, both Senators Obama and Clinton will rise to rhetorical heights. What the rhetoric will cover up is the fact that both of them are basically advocating income redistribution because it's a good way to buy votes. On foreign policy, they're recommending that the nation adopt what we might call "The Ostrich Position." Their plan for preventing terrorism is basically to pray that nothing bad happens. If a terrorist attack does happen on their watch, expect them to look around for scapegoats.

In high-tech industries, there's a saying about people making outrageous statements, as Mrs. Clinton will do this weekend. The saying is that something "doesn't pass the straight-face test." Senator Clinton will tell us how wonderful the very limited Sen. Obama is. But will she be able to do it with a straight face? Perhaps Bill Clinton will show up and say he was just joshing when he accused Obama and his surrogates of "sliming" Mrs. Clinton and calling her a racist. "Just kdding!"

If there's a strange odor around both candidates on Saturday, it will be the all-too-familiar smell of political cynicism.

Bill's Girlfriend? Obama "Sliming" Hillary?

The article was written by Todd Purdum, who is married to Clinton's former press secretary, Dee Dee Myers. Yikes! Somehow, the Botoxed lips don't work for me. However, a friend in Ambridge said of Bill, "I can't believe it. As he gets older, the girlfriends get better looking."




Bulletin: Tomorrow (Wednesday) I'll talk about Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and what lies ahead for her. If I had a crystal ball, I'd predict that -- in 2012 -- Mrs. Clinton would be running for President . . . against Vice-President Sarah Palin. Hey, stranger things haven't happened, I admit, but we paddle along nowadays in uncharted waters. The following are Bill Clinton's comments about how the Obama campaign and its surrogates have been "sliming" (nice word, Bill) his wife.





"The editor of Esquire— he sent us an email yesterday and said it was the single sleaziest piece of journalism he'd seen in decades. He said it made him want to go take a shower and he was embarrassed to be a journalist when he read it."





"You know he [Todd Purdum] didn't use a single name, cite a single source in all those things he said. It's just slimy. It's part of the national media's attempt to nail Hillary for Obama. It's the most biased press coverage in history. It's another way of helping Obama.





"They had all these people standing up in this church [Barack's now-former church, Trinity United] cheering, calling Hillary a white racist, and he didn't do anything about it. The first day he said 'Ah, ah, ah well.' Because that's what they do— he [Obama] gets other people to slime her. So then they saw the movie they thought this is a great ad for John McCain— maybe I better quit the church. It's all politics."





"It's all about the bias of the media for Obama. Don't think anything about it."



Steve adds: I doubt we've heard the last of this. On Dee Dee Myers: Clinton did appoint her press secretary, but decided relatively soon that she wasn't up to the job. I thought she was (and is) a capable PR person. Apparently, she was very hurt by President Bill tossing her under the bus, but she's avoided trashing him.




Do I believe McCain supporters should use Bill Clinton's comments against Obama? I sure do. Mrs. Clinton has portrayed Barack Obama as a man not at all ready to be President. She should be reminded of her comments -- and so should Obama.

Note: I'm putting up the following column from my national blog because it's relevant to the concerns of this site.

The pundits last night didn't really "interpret" Mrs. Clinton's "concession speech" (more properly, her "non-concession speech"). Instead, they mainly had a befuddled look on their faces. Some wondered if she was not perhaps launching the first shot in her 2012 campaign for the presidency. (I suggested that the next presidential election -- the one after this year's -- might end up pitting Senator Clinton on the Democratic side against Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for the Republicans. (In this scenario, President John McCain would have -- as we used to say in business -- "elected to take early retirement.")


Of course, the major question the Senator left is whether she wants (expects?) the vice presidential nod. CNN"s David Gergen suggested that Mrs. Clinton seemed to be indicating that she wanted Senator Obama to agree to some sort of "coalition" government -- or perhaps a co-presidency. On that point, what about a "troika," that would have three equal parts: Barack, Hillary, and -- of course -- Bill?


The problem with Hillary as a vice-presidential nominee is this: she has supplied the Republicans with all sorts of ammunition. Famously, she once said, "I have a lifetime of experience; Senator McCain has a lifetime of experience; Senator Obama has a speech [against the Iraq War] that he delivered in 2002." When Obama runs against McCain, he will hear those words used in ads -- again and again and again.


Mrs. Clinton's slogan in her campaign was "Ready on Day 1." She has implied that John McCain would also be ready to serve as President on Day 1. Of course, her words mean that Obama would NOT be ready. If she thought the Illinois Senator had the appropriate seasoning (and as Prince Hamlet said, "The readiness is all"), then her slogan would have made no sense. Bill Clinton said on June 2 that the Obama campaign was "sliming" his wife.


Again, if Hillary Clinton accepts (the proper word may be "seizes") the vice-presidential nod, Bill Clinton's words just might ring throughout the fall campaign. The former President indicated that Obama is relying on "surrogates" to hurl mud at his wife.Are Hillary and Bill Clinton really ready to mend fences with Obama? Are they willing to say, in essence, "all is forgiven, Barack. We really didn't mean all those nasty things we said about you."


Is this to be a ticket that contains a undertone of the following: "It's true that I said Barack wouldn't be ready on day 1; however, since he will have me with him (in the White House? perhaps the Lincoln Bedroom?), he won't have to worry about not being quite ready for prime time."


And what would the presence of Mrs. Clinton on the ticket do to Obama's seminal message of change? In fact, the "Billary" triplex would be a continuing reminder of the ghosts of American politics past. Barack would learn that it's impossible to fire a vice-president (or a former President)

.For Senator McCain, campaigning against an Obama-Clinton team might not be the daunting task it appeared to be yesterday. The Republican message -- one of them -- is going to highlight Obama's unsuitability for the highest office. And the main "spokesperson" for that position might not be John McCain, but rather Hillary Clinton -- with occasional assists from her husband.

Let the games begin!
