Hi Friends: This blog is only periodically active. However, I write nearly every day on two other blogs: http://stevemaloneygop.blogspot.com and http://draftpalin2012.blogspot.com. I hope you'll visit both. The material below was sent out today to my e-mail list, and it mentions both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. Again, thanks to those of you who keep coming back here.

Artemis March is a excellent writer with great insight into the "Obama Phenomenon." She's been a staunch defender of Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin, although I admit her defense of the latter sounds much more plausible to me than her defense of the former. That aside, her pieces on the campaign and post-election period (in places like NoQuarter and The New Agenda) are very worth reading. She truly understands Obama's appeal -- and it scares her to death. She's worth googling. Her insights also contain the core of a strategy for defeating Obama in 2012 when, yes my friends, he will be running for re-election. :"The dog ate my birth certificate."

"Those caught up in his [Obama's] rhetoric feel like they are part of the "we," and that they are going to be part of something big and wonderful together. Others of us get an unsettling sense that even when he says "we," it's all about him, quite singular. We don't sense individuals in a crowd relating to him (as we do, for example, when Hillary Clinton speaks), but a fused entity lost in him. He is not offering to serve them or fight on their behalf. He is proclaiming that they can become part of him. Many of us get an eerie chill because this is the kind of messianic promise made by cult leaders, not politicians. She says:

"And that's just the beginning of the diametrically opposed reactions to Obama that have deeply divided feminists, progressives, and Democrats, and pitted friends, family members, co-workers, neighbors, networks, interest group members and officials, former political allies, as well as demographic groups against one another. One of the things that keeps us so divided is that his devotees and even many of his converts seem to know so little about him yet consistently reject information that does not fit with their trusting view of him. Many pour out unprecedented-for "progressives"-nastiness, misinformation, and hatred to demean Hillary Clinton and then Sarah Palin, and to intimidate and even threaten those who don't agree with them. Their bullying has dominated campuses, caucuses, and the convention as well as the blogosphere and media. "Truth squads" aim to silence anything but unqualified admiration.

Hillary is No Sarah Palin

Hillary Clinton has spent a lifetime accepting, rationalizing, and even defending (yikes) her husband's chronic adultery and abusive behavior toward women. Many Hillary Supporters are now spending their lives defending HRC's decision to value her career over her country. Sarah Palin is a woman who turned in her own Party's state chairman for ethics violations. Hillary Clinton has never done anything remotely comparable in her career. The sad thing is that most of Hillary's Supporters have much higher standards for themselves than they do for their tinsel heroine.

Historic Obama-Palin Contest Coming

Is this the woman that will derail Obama's effort to be a two-term President? One hopes so.

Until Jan. 20, 2009 (Inauguration Day, I'll be cross-posting pieces at those two sites. Hillary Lets Down Supporters, Country

Thanks to the tens of thousands of people who visited this site. Managing this blog has been a fascinating experience. In the end, Hillary Clinton let down her Supporters -- and her Nation. She valued her career and her party over her nation. Bummer!

Apparently, in the election, as many as four million Hillary Supprters cast their ballots for McCain-Palin. That's a great start.

Barack H. Obama will be our 44th President. Let's make sure our 45th is the woman below.

This particular blog will come to its "natural death" at the end of this week. Before that, however, I will write some more about a six-month-long experiment I had working with Hillary Supporters for McCain. Obviously, not enough of them voted for John McCain and Sarah Palin. However, at least 20% of the famous "18 million" DID in fact vote for McCain-Palin. That's a hefty number. Apparently, most of the Hillary Supporters for McCain recognize that "reform" of the Democratic Party is a fantasy. Millions of them now think of themselves as Independents, or even -- horror of horrors -- as Republicans. Good for them.

Is Palin the Next V-P?

Sarah Palin: Is this the face of America's next Vice President? (Note: Please visit -- and bookmark -- my new site by clicking on the following: http://draftpalin2012.blogspot.com/.)

I expect Barack Obama to win the popular vote by perhaps three million ballots. However, that doesn't mean John McCain has no chance to win the presidency. How could that happen? (Obama apparently will win California by two million votes; he will win NY by almost one million. That will make the rest of the country roughly even. McCain is not competing in CA or NY.)

To emerge with a victory on Nov. 4, McCain needs to win Ohio, FL, PA, MN, NC, and VA. Other than that, we're in great shape. :-)

However, we have a chance of winning those five states. If we lose one, I prefer it to be VA. McCain has a narrow window, but narrow is better than a brick wall. If McCain pulls off a big upset in a state, please God, let it be CO!

Critical point: If you hear a lot Tuesday night about the "Wilder Effect," you are allowed to cheer and have a couple of drinks. That refers to the time when Doug Wilder, of marginal African-American descent, was ahead in the polls by 9 points for Gov. of VA. In fact, he ended up winning by just under ONE percent. People fib to pollsters for much the same reason they hang up on telemarketers.

I have a hunch Obama will get about 3-4% fewer votes (and McCain about 2-3% more) in battleground states than the polls suggest. If that doesn't happen, the Obaminable One probably wins. :-

When I need sources of optimism, I look back to the Dem. Primaries, where Obama was supposed to win NH big (and he lost rather badly) and come close in PA (where he lost b y almost 10 points). Must have been "the Wilder Effect," right?

Elect Sarah Palin President 2012

In about a week, this election-specific blog basically will cease to exist . . . in that there will be no more posts. John McCain will either have won Pennsylvania (and the presidency), or he won't. I also ask you, if you're a blogger, to join the ReadMyLipstickNetwork, which I've already done. The purpose of that network -- and the purpose of my blogs -- will be to ensure that Gov. It's difficult not to froth when one reads, as I did again and again this week, doubts about Sarah Palin's “intelligence,” coming especially from women such as PBS's Bonnie Erbe, who, as near as I recall, has not herself heretofore been burdened with the Susan Sontag of Journalism moniker. As Fred Barnes—God help me, I'm agreeing with Fred Barnes—suggests in the Weekly Standard, these high toned and authoritative dismissals come from people who have never met or spoken with Sarah Palin. Those who know her, love her or hate her, offer no such criticism. They know what I know, and I learned it from spending just a little time traveling on the cramped campaign plane this week: Sarah Palin is very smart.

I'm a Democrat, but I've worked as a consultant with the McCain campaign since shortly after Palin's nomination. Last week, there was the thought that as a former editor-in-chief of Ms. magazine as well as a feminist activist in my pre-journalism days, I might be helpful in contributing to a speech that Palin had long wanted to give on women's rights.What is often called her “confidence” is actually a rarity in national politics: I saw a woman who knows exactly who she is.

Now by “smart,” I don't refer to a person who is wily or calculating or nimble in the way of certain talented athletes who we admire but suspect don't really have serious brains in their skulls. I mean, instead, a mind that is thoughtful, curious, with a discernable pattern of associative thinking and insight. Palin asks questions, and probes linkages and logic that bring to mind a quirky law professor I once had. Palin is more than a “quick study”; I'd heard rumors around the campaign of her photographic memory and, frankly, I watched it in action. She sees. She processes. She questions, and only then, she acts. What is often called her “confidence” is actually a rarity in national politics: I saw a woman who knows exactly who she is.

For all those old enough to remember Senator Sam Ervin, the brilliant strict constitutional constructionist and chairman of the Senate Watergate Committee whose patois included “I'm just a country lawyer"...Yup, Palin is that smart.

So no simple task then, this speech on women's rights. For the sin of being a Christian personally opposed to abortion, Palin is being pilloried by the inside-the-Beltway Democrat feminist establishment. (Yes, she is anti-abortion. And yes, instead of buying organic New Zealand lamb at Whole Foods, she joins other Alaskans in hunting for food. That's it. She is not a right-wing nut, and all the rest of the Internet drivel—the book banning at the Library, the rape kits decision—is nonsense. I digress.) Palin's role in this campaign was to energize “the Republican base,” which she has inarguably done. She also was expected to reach out to Hillary Clinton “moderates.” (Right. Only a woman would get both those jobs in either party.)

Look, I am obviously personally pro-choice, and I disagree with McCain and Palin on that and a few other issues. But like many other Democrats, including Lynn Rothschild, I'm tired of the Democratic Party taking women for granted. I also happen to believe Sarah Palin supports women's rights, deeply and passionately.

Many of those—not all—who decried the sexist media treatment of Hillary Clinton have been silent as Palin has been skewered in the old ways that female public figures are skewered, as well as a host of sexualized new ways as well. Some feminists have weighed in; “Even the reportedly clear glasses she wears to play down her beauty queen credential and enhance her gravitas can't make up for experience,” writes my heroine Suzanne Braun Levine, former editor of Ms. Oppose her on policy? Fine. But how sad for feminist leaders to sink this low, especially when Palin has worn glasses since she was 10 years old.

Last month a prominent feminist blogger, echoing that sensibility, declared that the media was wrongly buying into the false idea that Palin was a feminist. Why? Well, just because she said she was a feminist, because she supported women's rights and opportunities, equal pay, Title IV—that was just “empty rhetoric,” they said. At least the blogger didn't go as far as NOW's Kim Gandy and declare that Palin was not a woman. Bottom line: you are not a feminist until we say you are. And there you have the formula for diminishing what was once a great and important mass social change movement to an exclusionary club that rejects women who sincerely want to join and, God forbid, grow to lead.

But here is the good news: women, citizens of America's high and low culture, the Economist and People magazine readers, will get it. They got it with Hillary even when feminist leaders were not supporting her or doing so half-heartedly. Yes, Palin is a harder sell, she looks and sounds different, and one can rightfully oppose her based on abortion policies. If you only vote on how a person personally feels about abortion, you will never want her to darken your door. If you care about anything else, she will continue to intrigue you. As Time's Nancy Gibbs noted a few weeks ago, quoting bioethicist Tom Murray, “Sympathy and subtlety are seasonings rarely applied to political red meat.”

Will Palin's time come next week? I don't know. But her time will come.

Hillary Clinton: No Sarah Palin

I was honored to be at Sarah Palin's Rally, which drew a huge crowd, in Beaver County, PA. She was splendid. She compared "Joe the Plumber" with "Barack, the Wealth Distributor."

The following is an e-mail to many hundreds of my political allies -- some of them closer allies than others.

Right now, the election boils down to this: If John McCain prevails in Florida, Ohio, AND Pennsylvania, he has a fighting chance to win the election. If he doesn't, he won't. That means we need tens of thousands of people to go to JohnMcCain.com, use the Online Phone Bank, and call into those three states.

After Nov. 5, no matter what happens the day before, I intend to work with kindred spirits, particulary the people at http://moderconservative.com/ to build a huge organization of activists who will win federal elections in 2010, 2012, and beyond.

After Nov. 4, "NoBama Mission Bloggers" will cease to exist. There will be another organization with a new name, but (I hope) with a lot of the same players.

In this election year, I focused on Hillary Supporters who would consider voting for John McCain, and later for McCain-Palin. Frankly, I thought there would be more of them than turned out to be the case. I believed -- and was partially correct -- that John McCain's status as a military hero, a reformer, and independent spirit would have great appeal.

Some people receiving this note believed that it would be possible to "reform" the DNC and the Democratic Party. Honestly, I thought (and now I know) they were engaged in a fantasy. Who exactly was going to reform the Party? Barack Obama? Howard Dean? Jay Rockefeller? Bob Casey? John Kerry? John Edwards? Ted Kennedy? Hillary Clinton?

Those people apparently are quite happy with the Party as it is. They have all enthusiastically endorsed Barack Obama, a man having no accomplishments in the past and showing little promise of any in the future.

My low point in dealing with Hillaryites came when I highly praised John McCain's naming of a strong woman as his vice presidential choice. One woman told me that by saluting Gov. Palin so highly I had made Hillary Clinton look bad by comparison.

Actually, I made no comparison, but if I had, my critic would have been right: HRC is NO Sarah Palin, not even close. Unlike Hillary, Sarah cannot be intimidated, cannot be made to toe the Party line, cannot be dismissed as someone who ever rode her spouse's coattails. She has the courage, compassion, and candor we should require in political candidates. "Country first" is the right motto for such an admirable woman and her remarkable family.

Gov. Palin has said that her goals for America are a society that promotes "freedom, tolerance/fairness, and opportunity." I don't know of any Democratic elected officials who share those goals. I know some individual Democrats do -- generally people in transition toward becoming either Independents or Republicans.

I believe Barack Obama (and Joe Biden) are the fulfillment of what Lyndon Johnson called "The Great Society." What that "Great" aim led to was a society in moral and cultural disarray, one where half the people are dependent on the other half. In that kind of society, concepts like freedom, tolerance/fairness, and opportunity become mere words.

In the future, I'll be dealing mainly with moderates and conservatives, almost all of whom will be either Republicans or Independents. In terms of candidates, I'll be looking for people of uncommon honesty and courage. Candidates who are poll-driven cynics and careerists will be the enemy, because they are so destructive of our country.

I wish John McCain and Sarah Palin all the best on election day. I will continue to work hard for them, and I hope all of you will do so also.

For some of you, this is a good-bye message. For others, it is a pledge to work with you to build a stronger America. But God bless to all.

Hillary Clinton: No Sarah Palin

Mistakes made, lessons learned in the 2008 Campaign . . .

Karen [a friend]: At one point in the JustSayNoDeal atmosphere I gave a ringing endorsement to Sarah Palin. I was told by a Hillaryite that by praising Sarah Palin so highly I had upset her because, by comparison, I'd made HRC look bad. Actually, I said nothing about Hillary Clinton, whom I admit I don't believe is in the same league as Sarah Palin.

Let me be frank: HRC is obviously a Party first person. Sarah Palin is country first.

Your comment about the "maverick" (i.e., naive) political participants is accurate. Frankly, the hundreds of thousands of hours spent on "Denver" and on wild flailing at Obama were a gigantic waste of time and money. The time expended on Denver should have been spent organizing -- and raising money -- to defeat Obama.

Sen. Clinton and her husband, both labelled racists (and worse) by Obama, have been out campaigning for their tormentor. The excuse given is that Sen. Clinton "has to do what she has to do." I compare that to Dosteoevsky's comment that, "If God is dead, everything is permitted." As long as someone like HRC is held to no standards, she "lives up" to that just fine.

One reason I like Sarah Palin so much is that she is not -- and will never become -- a Washington insider. She is incorruptible and totally fearless. The Hillary Supporters who have faced up to reality (and it is horrifying to say the least) will be great allies. The ones who remain in fantasy land would be no help to us.

You raise a point that Chris, Katie, and I have not discussed; the crying need for political training -- basically, to acquaint people with what works and what doesn't. Also, we need to inform people about how to build small organizations into large ones.

As for bloggers, they can be great assets. At times, however, we sounded like the second coming of the Tower of Babel. At our worst, we were all trying to produce a "knockout" (one more juicy expose) but generally didn't lay a glove on BHO. The birth-certificate non-issue was a classic case. I doubt 1% of the voters can identify the name "Raila Odinga." Michelle Obama's Princeton thesis is of interest to almost no one.

What are Americans interested in? And of even more importance, what are they NOT interested in? I asked people many time to be brutally realistic with themselves, but that message didn't get across to many.

We also need to coalesce around a specific candidate. I've said I hope that will be Sarah Palin, but I'm open to other names (if there are some).

McCain-Palin Can Still Win

A Hillary Supporter wrote asking if I had "given up" on winning this year's election; the following is my response.

I have NOT given up on the election at all. I've worked so hard for so many months that I have something approaching Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Hell, I'm still trying to win Pennsylvania, which I believe we just might do. I've predicted (guessed?) that McCain may take the national lead by the end of October. We shall see.

However, I realize that after an election -- win or lose -- a whole lot of people tend to disappear. Then, two years or four years later, everybody starts re-inventing the same wheel that they already "invented" previously. It's impossible to win modern elections that way.

Thanks for your continuing support of McCain-Palin, a ticket of two honorable people.

As you already know, I do not believe the Democratic Party is going to "reformed." Who on earth would reform it? I have scrupulously supported such "reform" efforts for many months now, but at this point I regard them as folly and fantasy.

Democrats -- like the Clintons -- who should be leading the reform movement are running around drooling over Obama. His despicable campaign will be the "model" for all future Democratic Party efforts.

This morning (Thursday), I had my first confrontation with an (African-American) Obama Supporter. It was a confrontation that I won, and I'll write about it this weekend.

Hillary Clinton's Actions: Disgraceful, Despicable

Let's see: during the Democratic Primaries, Obama branded both Clintons as racists -- and added that Mrs. Clinton was a warmonger and a liar. So, both of them are now wildly campaigning for their tormentor -- the man Mrs. Clinton labeled as no more than "a speech he gave in 2002." Yes, Barack Obama is an empty suit, but, well, he's also a Democrat.

I sent the following to one of "Hillary's" staunchest supporters -- a woman who, unlike her political "heroine" -- is now campaigning for McCain-Palin.

I would like to say that I think it's time you and other former Hillary Supporters step up to the plate and label her actions on behalf of Obama for what they are: disgraceful, despicable, and immoral. I realize Hillary's Supporters demand almost nothing from her, and she certainly lives down to their expectations.

If this is the real Hillary, she would make a terrible President. She's a weak person, easily intimidated and totally focused on her absurd "career." It is a career based totally on riding on the coattails of men with no respect for her -- Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

John McCain and Sarah Palin have been completely respectful of her. In return, she's joined Barack Hussein Obama, Chicago politician, heaping garbage on them.

Clearly, she values Party over County, and that's not exactly a quality we want in a person that might occupy the White House.

"I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors," Barack Obama told a crowd in Elko, Nev. "I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face." Actually, Obama supporters are doing a lot more than getting into people's faces. They seem determined to shut people up.

That's what Obama supporters, alerted by campaign emails, did when conservative Stanley Kurtz appeared on Milt Rosenberg's WGN radio program in Chicago. Kurtz had been researching Obama's relationship with unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers in Chicago Annenberg Challenge papers in the Richard J. Daley Library in Chicago -- papers that were closed off to him for some days, apparently at the behest of Obama supporters.

Obama fans jammed WGN's phone lines and sent in hundreds of protest emails. The message was clear to anyone who would follow Rosenberg's example. We will make trouble for you if you let anyone make the case against The One.

Other Obama supporters have threatened critics with criminal prosecution. In September, St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch and St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce warned citizens that they would bring criminal libel prosecutions against anyone who made statements against Obama that were "false." I had been under the impression that the Alien and Sedition Acts had gone out of existence in 1801-02. Not so, apparently, in metropolitan St. Louis. Similarly, the Obama campaign called for a criminal investigation of the American Issues Project when it ran ads highlighting Obama's ties to Ayers.

These attempts to shut down political speech have become routine for liberals.

Congressional Democrats sought to reimpose the "fairness doctrine" on broadcasters, which until it was repealed in the 1980s required equal time for different points of view. The motive was plain: to shut down the one conservative-leaning communications medium, talk radio. Liberal talk-show hosts have mostly failed to draw audiences, and many liberals can't abide having citizens hear contrary views.

To their credit, some liberal old-timers -- like House Appropriations Chairman David Obey -- voted against the "fairness doctrine," in line with their longstanding support of free speech. But you can expect the "fairness doctrine" to get another vote if Barack Obama wins and Democrats increase their congressional majorities.

Corporate liberals have done their share in shutting down anti-liberal speech, too. "Saturday Night Live" ran a spoof of the financial crisis that skewered Democrats like House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank and liberal contributors Herbert and Marion Sandler, who sold toxic-waste-filled Golden West to Wachovia Bank for $24 billion. Kind of surprising, but not for long. The tape of the broadcast disappeared from NBC's Website and was replaced with another that omitted the references to Frank and the Sandlers. Evidently NBC and its parent, General Electric, don't want people to hear speech that attacks liberals.

Then there's the Democrats' "card check" legislation, which would abolish secret ballot elections in determining whether employees are represented by unions. The unions' strategy is obvious: Send a few thugs over to employees' homes -- we know where you live -- and get them to sign cards that will trigger a union victory without giving employers a chance to be heard.

Once upon a time, liberals prided themselves, with considerable reason, as the staunchest defenders of free speech. Union organizers in the 1930s and 1940s made the case that they should have access to employees to speak freely to them, and union leaders like George Meany and Walter Reuther were ardent defenders of the First Amendment.

Today's liberals seem to be taking their marching orders from other quarters. Specifically, from the college and university campuses where administrators, armed with speech codes, have for years been disciplining and subjecting to sensitivity training any students who dare to utter thoughts that liberals find offensive. The campuses that used to pride themselves as zones of free expression are now the least free part of our society.

Obama supporters who found the campuses congenial and Obama himself, who has chosen to live all his adult life in university communities, seem to find it entirely natural to suppress speech that they don't like and seem utterly oblivious to claims that this violates the letter and spirit of the First Amendment. In this campaign, we have seen the coming of the Obama thugocracy, suppressing free speech, and we may see its flourishing in the four or eight years ahead.

Obama dumps a load of dung on Hillary Clinton. She responds by endorsing him.

It's really shameful. But it's also the continuation of a pattern. For 30-years plus she's been in a marriage of convenience with a man who's a chronic adulterer. Frankly, that is a form of abuse and a source of continuing humuliation. I'm not a psychiatrist, but somehow Mrs. Clinton seems to feel that humiliation by men is her due. Some people won't like my saying that, but in fact it's rather obviously true.

Mrs. Clinton endorses Obama for much the same reason that she stayed with Bill Clinton, her permanent abuser. In some part of her being, she expects powerful men to mistreat her, and in that regard, they don't let her down.

If she had divorced Bill, that would ended her chances for the presidency -- and probably even for the Senate. She hangs around to get ahead. She's become a professional rider of Bill's coattails, a woman who seems to have no life of her own.

Hillary is one of those sad political cases who believes "there's no life outside the Beltway." For her, that absurd belief just may be true, if we can call what she has "a life."

A friend of mine -- a good friend -- from Texas has tried to explain Hillary's behavior this way: "They [Obama? his minions? the Chicago boys?] threatened her. They threatened her daughter [Chelsea]. They even threatened her mother!"

I don't buy it. How does anyone threaten former First Lady, one under constant Secret Service protection? When HRC takes a shower, there's someone outside the bathroom, listening to make sure she doesn't fall. I don't believe for a minute that anyone threatened her. I believe she does what she does because she's a weak human being.

She obviously values her Party over her Country. She obviously values her career over any character she may once have had. She's a sad spectacle. She doesn't deserve to be President. She doesn't even deserve to be a U.S. Senator.

America's Economy? Basically, It's Fine

thanks to Mike Devine ("Gamecock" on Red State for acquainting me with the material below.) Recently, John McCain said America's economic "fundamentals are good." Of course, Barack Obama and his horde of know-nothings immediately rushed out with a commercial indicating that McCain must be clueless because he was not presenting the kind of hysterical message we were hearing on CNN and MSNBC.

As the article by Max Boot (an excerpt below) shows, what McCain said was factually (key word) correct. Of course, in the world of BHO and David Axelrod, little matters like truth count for nothing -- and demagoguery counts for everything.

Governor Sarah Palin and her family have been under relentless attack by Barack Obama, David Axelrod, and their media stooges.

The following letter from "RB" is right on target regarding the sexism and misogyny of the Obama Campaign and its minions in the media. As usual, it's a story the MSM is refusing to discuss. The following letter meanders slightly, but it is a cry-from-the-heart about the devastating effects Obama has had on our society and its politics.

Dear Liz – I do hope you are doing better and your hip is healing. Knowing you, while you were cutting that branch you were stewing like me over all this negativity around women…………..

I don't know if you realize just what this election is doing to women. When I read the problems your friends are having and knowing other women Hillary supporters who are having medical issues, I see nothing but confusion, anger, depression, families fighting within themselves, friends fighting.

It all makes me feel like what have I really achieved……… in this election? Basically, one man -- Obama -- destroyed Hillary, playing the race card over and over.

I am reading such horrible comments on the websites (“whitey will wax our shoes”…… and other terrible comments about women), and I just feel like I don’t matter and other women like do not matter.

For the first time I am afraid to put a bumper sticker on my car for fear of violence. Look at how they protested in front of McCain’s house. People do not realize that this is serious stuff when you make promises, as Obama has, that you cannot keep.

There is just plain thuggery out there – all niceties and values are out the window. Nancy Pelosi apparently became a woman who broke through barriers, but now I realize that there are no barriers for women of the upper class. And when I heard Sally Quinn say of Sarah Palin, “she is not of the establishment”…….. what is that supposed to mean??

Look at how stupidly Congress is trying to add pork to a bill our COUNTRY needs for the economic crisis. The DNC blame the RNC, but THEY the Dems were at the wheel for nearly 3 years now. Did not Christopher Dodd see this, Barney Frank, and even Obama (as well as Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, and others)?? You cannot blame Bush for everything – you have to take responsibility and be accountable, and they the Dems have failed to do so.

I was so against the war when all those solders were dead or badly injured, but with the surge I felt optimistic and more so now. But I do agree that this was not a war we should have had. But you cannot put back the milk once its split. What do you think?

Women were told that if you are an achiever and a mother you can "go places" – but does that mean going down only??? Hillary has been round the block, though even she must be depressed and confused with all this.

But Sarah Palin – what did she do? She rose from the ranks of the PTA, had children and one special needs child, and this is the abuse she is getting for achieving, pulling herself to reach the sky? I just cannot believe the venom and hatred spewing out of the mouths of women. The Feminist Movement is DEAD. All they have done for women is burn bras, and the rest is NADA.

I always thought that this is what the movement wanted – a woman who pulled herself up (did not whine), had a family and was successful. Boy was I wrong!!! I felt s honored to know about Gloria Steinam and told my kids all about her……….. now I wish I had not met her because she is not for women’s rights, just for one issue “pro choice” and is a true Elitist……….

Now, we have to keep on hearing all these remarks about women and this poor woman who is so far removed from Washington being picked on daily…… I know all the adage it comes with the territory, but this is not the territory – it is sheer madness and sheer vulgarity.

Look at The View, an icon of America. Barbara Walters is really down in the gutter with the company she keeps. I admired her as she had achieved so much, but she is just a shrill machine for ratings, and is really down in the gutters.

I really feel so down with this election, and I think we not just as women, but as a nation get McCain elected. I wish I did not have medical needs and was a few years younger. Believe me I would travel down to PA.

Am I the only one feeling down and depressed, or have you heard from others? What recourse do we have to this ………. From the emails of today I feel that nothing is going to help. The Empty Suit will probably give us 4 more years of hell.

A TALE OF TWO CONVENTIONS

Upon hearing the news that Sarah Palin had been chosen as John McCain's running mate and learning of the spate of vicious sexist attacks upon her, Thelma, Louise and Princess Laia veered suddenly left and north to head to the Republican Convention in Minneapolis. In our last episode, we had arrived safely thereon and were making plans to be interviewed and attend Governor Palin's speech scheduled for Wednesday, September 3.

Today finds us mulling over the events of last night, and all the permutations therein. It was a first for this writer: attending a Republican convention was the last thing I ever thought I would be doing.

Amidst frantic phone calls from family asking whether I had lost my mind, I marched forth with my stalwart sisters to make our stand for feminism, women's rights, and human rights.

Irrespective of candidates' ideologies, it is our position that sexist smears, comments and accusations cannot be tolerated, at any time or any place. To continue to allow this kind of thing to perpetuate is to keep all people enslaved. As Hillary [Clinton] says, "Women's Rights Are Human Rights."

We were met at the skybox most graciously by two lovely RNC officials and were immediately struck by the contrast between the two conventions. Just having come from Denver, we had experienced and witnessed a great deal of unpleasantness--delegate intimidation, aggressive Obamabots, hostile and arrogant DNC officials were the rule rather than the exception, and at times the only friends we felt present were the Denver police, the foreign press and the residents, all of whom were terrific.

On the other hand, the officials and attendees here in St. Paul have been nothing but open, welcoming and enthusiastic about our presence. Regardless of whether one agrees with Sarah Palin's policies, one has to respect her right to voice them without fear of her family or herself being maligned.

The utter disrespect and sexism that has emerged, once again, toward a woman running for office in the United States is unacceptable.

When Joe Biden lost a wife and child in a car crash years ago, no one suggested to him that he quit his job to stay home and take care of his children; no one has suggested that he is a poor parent because his daughter was arrested for obstructing justice--in fact, no one even REPORTED the incident, which occurred years ago, until NOW!

And so it goes. It will not stop until we MAKE it stop. Call us what you will--we will not stop until equality is a reality, not just something Democrats feel they can apply only to themselves or those of whom they approve.

Equality is for EVERYone...all races, religions, creeds, genders, and yes...even political parties. Even Republicans have the right to be free from sexist, personal assaults upon themselves and their families. If one is maligned, we are all vulnerable.

Recently, in an interview with CNBC's Maria Bartiromo, Bill Cliton gave his initial opinion of Sarah Palin. And it's glowing.

Clinton said, "She’s an instinctively effective candidate. And with a compelling story. And she grew up, came up in a political culture, a religious culture that is probably well to the right of the American center. But she didn’t basically define herself in those terms.

(CNN) — On the eve of Tuesday’s critical Pennsylvania primary, former President Bill Clinton accused Barack Obama’s campaign of playing the race card against him.

After the phone interview with Delaware radio station WHYY Monday night, a stray comment of his on the issue was also recorded before he hung up: “I don’t think I should take any s*** from anybody on that, do you?”The former president had been asked whether his remarks comparing Obama’s strong showing in South Carolina to that of Jesse Jackson in 1988 had been a mistake given their impact on his wife Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

“No, I think that they played the race card on me,” said Clinton, “and we now know from memos from the campaign and everything that they planned to do it all along.”

“We were talking about South Carolina political history and this was used out of context and twisted for political purposes by the Obama campaign to try to breed resentment elsewhere. And you know, do I regret saying it? No. Do I regret that it was used that way? I certainly do. But you really got to go some to try to portray me as a racist.”

He added that the way Obama’s campaign had reacted was “disrespectful to Jesse Jackson” and that the former presidential candidate had told him he was not offended, and that “we all know what’s going on."

Obama was asked about Clinton's charge that his campaign had drawn up plans to use 'the race card.'“Hold on a second,’’ he said. “So former President Clinton dismissed my victory in South Carolina as being similar to Jesse Jackson and he is suggesting that somehow I had something to do with it? Sarah Heath Palin is orchestrated by Barack H. Obama and his minion David Axelrod. It's carried on by various extremist groups, including Moveon.org and Daily Kos. The Obama Campaign tells them what falsehoods and innuendoes to print, and they do it. All of these groups are paid -- directly or indirectly -- by Obama, Inc.

What on earth is going on in America? Please understand that far-left Obama Democrats truly believe "there is no life beyond the Beltway." That is of course ridiculous, but they do indeed accept it as an article of faith.

Many of them have huge personal fortunes (Kerry, Pelosi, Kennedy, Kohl, Lautenberg, Rockefeller, Feinstein, Clinton, and Edwards in his day), and they're willing to spend whatever it takes to retain their places in Congress.

The Obama Democrats have as their role model Sen. Robert Byrd of WV, a nine-term Senator, one with 50-plus years of so-called "service." You ask, service toward whom? And the sad answer is "service to himself and his Party." Sen. Byrd, now wearing adult diapers, doddering about the Senate floor, and frequently breaking into tears, is the ideal. He's expected to run for re-election.

His epitaph might read, "He outlasted everyone else." What did he do for his country? Not much. .

When the vast majority of people can't basically take care of themselves, they sure as hell can't take care of others. Barack forgot that little detail. Sarah didn't . . . and won't. The following piece is about the Obama's Campaign never-ending attempt to dig up dirt in order to destroy Gov. Sarah Heath Palin. Since the attacks come exclusively from the Democratic Party, those who participate in any way in that Party's activities are in fact enablers of evil.

The following is humorous -- in a rueful way. It has gone viral, and I appreciate the many positive comments I've received.

Led by the "Chosen One," the Obama Campaign tends to get WAY off message, with long clouds of hot air being used to answer questions no one has asked. But it will get better at that. The ads and the smears will grow increasingly hateful -- and bizarre.

The current attack message is that Gov. Palin is a (shudder) Christian. Imagine that! What an outrage to the well -heeled liberal ladies of the Upper West Side and the desiccated secularists of "The View."

The New York Times will do a carefully crafted editorial on how any candidate who not an agnostic or athiest is truly fit to serve. MSNBC will launch an expose on something-or-other.

In general, the modern Democratic Party is anti-Christian and anti-women. People like Obama and Biden list their "religious affiliation" with about as much conviction as they note their membership in the Kiwanis Club. I wish that were not true, because one would hope both Parties were responsible and committed enough to run the country.

The campaign to destroy Gov. Palin is going to fail. It is as pathetic as it is malicious and mendacious.

We will hear endless charges that when she was 7 years-old Sarah took an extra cupcake at school. Presumably, some mentally disturbed person at her OLD church will make bizarre theological statements that will then be attributed (absurdly) to the Governor. We will also hear that Bristol Palin was not well-liked by three girls in junior high.

I wish I were exaggerating, but I fear that I'm not. We'll certainly hear unfriendly comments from some of the political crooks Sarah helped put in jail. Piper Palin will be questioned intensely on how many Black friends she has.

We will learn some truly shocking news: that Sarah once borrowed a cup of sugar -- and did not return it. A psychologist associated with "Entertainment Tonight" will analyze the underlying significance of the sugar theft. Theologians from the University of Chicago will be consulted to determine exactly which commandment Sarah broke.

Reporters will thoroughly examine Sarah's trash. It will reveal a rich lode of evidence: coffee grounds, used bread wrappers, spinach Piper refused to eat, and an extremely provocative empty bottle of olive oil -- Extra Virgin!

Does that bottle contain hidden significance? Is it a veiled plea for chastity before marriage? Is it a hidden rebuke to Bristol? There are now more lawyers (all from Chicago apparently) and media dirt hunters in Wasilla than there are permanent residents.

The National Enquirer has a half-dozen people there (the entire Chicago bureau?), presumably looking for evildoing related in some arcane way to John Edwards mistress, Rielle Hunter, and Todd Palin.

Trust, me, Sarah's boyfriend when she was age 15 will receive constant media attention. Someone may find a copy of her secret diary composed during the ages 11 to 13! It will be examined closely for links to her current political philosophy.

Attempts will be made to steal Trig's pacifier. If the heist is successful, look for it on eBay -- opening bid at $10,000. Then, look for the Palins to buy a new one for $1.98 -- "film at 11."

A reference or photo in (Bristol-fiance) "Levi's" MySpace will receive eight hours analysis by Matthews and Olberman. Track Palin will be accused of cross-checking a rival in a hockey 2004 match. Todd Palin's snow-machine racer will be subjected to forensic analysis.

So, how do we win this election? If everyone who now favors McCain-Palin will recruit one new supporter -- or shore up one who's wavering, we will indeed prevail.

And, by the way, whatever happened to the "lovely" Michelle Obama? Did he ("the Chosen One") dump her without our knowledge? Perhaps she's relocated to friendlier climes, such as Kenya? Was Barack seen -- or was he not -- in the company of Rielle Hunter.

Actually, I believe Michelle is under the same bus where Barack tossed grandma. And where oh where is Rev. Jeremiah Wright when we most need him?

Sarah Palin is the political "hurricane" from Alaska, and American politics will never be the same. She's the kind of national leader that comes along about once in a century -- and the Democrats believe they're finished if they and their media minions don't destroy her. They will not -- and cannot -- succeed. In the words of national columnist Jack Kelly, "Journalists last week cast aside the mask of objectivity to reveal they are so deeply in the tank for Mr. Obama [that] most have grown gills." (http://post-gazette.com/forum). Most MSM types hate Sarah Palin. Most Americans love her -- for obvious reasons.

John McCain, Sarah Palin, Bristol Palin, and America's favorite "special needs" child, Trig Paxson Palin. Unlike the American flags at the Obama Invesco Field nomination, the ones you see were NOT thrown in the trash.

If you scroll down to the post two Fridays ago, you'll see that this blog BROKE the story that John McCain would name Sarah Palin as his running mate. Frankly, I beat the MSM by 8 hours, since my story appeared at 2:30 a.m. I've explained how I knew it would happen and why I took the "risk" ("I hope I'm right," I said) of going with it. Names People Call Barack Obama

Will Obama ever recover from the beating Gov. Palin gave him the other night? Maybe not.

People have many nicknames for Barack H. Obama. Cristi Adkins, whom Obama's attack dogs have been after relentlessly for months, calls him "Hussein." She believes he's much more at home with an Islamic terrorist like Raila Odinga or a domestic terrorist like Williams Ayers than with real people like Hillary Clinton, John McCain, or Sarah Palin.

Of course, many people refer to Obama as BHO. If they're looking for a stinkier term, they could use "BO." Some people express their hope there will be no "BO" in a sweeter smelling world.

One of my favorite bloggers is Mahalo, a PUMA (Party-Unity-my-you-know-what) in Hawaii. She's one of TWO Hawaian bloggers, the other being another beautifully named woman, Malia.

In a recent post -- and she does outstanding ones -- Mahalo calls Barack "Bambi." She's writing about the report that Hillary Clinton might be forced (or deceived?) into a role as "Bambi's attack dog." Somehow, attacking Sarah Palin doesn't seem like a good career move for Mrs. Clinton. Perhaps it would be better -- and safer -- to attack Bambi?

Mahalo also calls Obama, an increasingly hapless, man "Gumby." That was the most amazing, most tremendous speech I have been witness to. I stood up in my living room several times and rah rah'd her. Rudy kicked butt too! I truly can see her as President. On her experience as a public servant: "I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids' public education better.

When I ran for city council, I didn't need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves.

I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities." On why she is going to Washington, D.C.: "I'm not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I've learned quickly, these past few days, that if you're not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone.

But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country."

On energy policies that the McCain-Palin administration will implement: "Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems - as if we all didn't know that already. But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines...build more nuclear plants...create jobs with clean coal...and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers." On John McCain: "Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."

Bill Kristol tells this true story that he heard from a McCain staffer:A nervous young McCain staffer took it upon himself to explain to Palin the facts of life in a national campaign, the intense scrutiny she'd be under from the media, the viciousness of the assault that she'd be facing, etc.:
Palin: "Thanks for the warning. By the way, do you know what they say the difference is between a hockey mom and a Pit Bull?"

McCain aide: "No, Governor."

Palin: "A hockey mom wears lipstick."

In the end what may kill the democrats is overconfidence. Their attacks on Sarah Palin's kids will blow back in their faces, because Americans hate when politicians and the press beat up kids.Beyond that they are severely underestimating the GUTS of Sarah Palin.

What the Republicans missed about Sarah Palin then--and what the Democrats seem poised to miss now--is that she is a true political savant; a candidate with a knack for identifying the key gripes of the populace and packaging herself as the solution. That keen political nose has enabled her to routinely outperform her resume.

Can Mom Palin Be V-P?

I think it's important to get this out. When Sarah was pregnant (last March), she was asked if a pregnant woman could campaign for V-P, and she said she saw no reason why she couldn't. (Long before she got the nod.)

Yes, she is SuperWoman, but she is who she is. She has a tremendous support system in her extended family. All the kids, including the seven-year-old (Piper), are high achievers. She believes there is nothing significant -- aside from pro football -- that a man does that a woman can't do. That was supposed to the liberals' line, but as we see, they don't believe it.

One of the liberals' current lines is that she is shrill. That is a codeword for her having a female voice. "Inexperienced" means she's a woman.

Fred Thompson's line: "You don't get experience sitting on the Senate floor. And you don't get experience appearing on the Sunday talk shows.'

ON SARAH'S PREGNANT DAUGHTER, BRISTOL

Before the media revealed it, I know Sarah Palin's 17-year-old daughter was pregnant. As one of the tens of millions of American families that has experienced something similar, my initial feeling was not shock. Instead, it was one of love -- for the Palins, yes, but for all families.

In many ways the story about Sarah's daughter Bristol being pregnant is a non-story. Two of my daughters (out of five) were pregnant and had children before they got married (my grandchildren Frank and Michael). It's "America 2008."

I think the young woman (Bristol) who's pregnant is terrific. After the barn door closes, all you can say is: "What can I do to help?"

In a very short time, the American public has learned to love the Palin Family. They are reflective of all that's good and decent about our country. Let's wish them all well -- and let's get on with the business of winning this election.

I am pro-life. Yet I have friends, -- quite a few -- who are pro-choice. They are NOT evil people. I think their definition of life is deficient, but I the ones I know aren't morally carefless or "bad" individuals.

I am also pro-letting-Americans-make-their-own-choices, even ones that might involve life and death. In fact, that's something they will do with or without my permission. All is ask is that such choices be informed ones, thoughtful ones.

When Mike Huckabee, whom I like a lot, said that Jamie Spears's teen pregnancy was a "tragedy," I begged to differ. (Admittely, Mike immediately said that he was not one of those who would "line up" to "stand in judgment" of Britney's younger sister.

That must have been one amazing trip from Anchorage to Dayton. You leave good old "Northern Expousre" and, fly five hours with a baby (Trig) and a 7-year-old (Piper), and then when you land, the Secret Service is there to protect you. Only in America.

At 2 a.m. Friday, when Sharon in OK told me what was going on, it seemed like a dream, even an out-of-body experience.As you'll be hearing, Sarah became Govenor by defeating former Senator and then-Governor Frank Murkowski, in the primary. She then took on Democrat Tony Knowles, a former Governor, and beat him badly.

She started to get endorsements for V-P from: Les Kinsolving of WorldNetDaily, Fred Barnes of FOX, William Kristol of the The Weekly Standard, and from Jack Kelly in RealClear Politics. Bogger Emily Zanotti also gave an important endorsement..

Cindy Reidhead of our NoBama Blogger Group wrote an important piece called "Why Not New Mommy Palin for V-P?" Then, Lawrence Kudlow on CNBC endorsed her. She and McCain apparently had one or more secret meetings. Then, McCain's vetter Arthtur Culvahouse was spotted in Anchorage. Sarah said innocently that she had merely "sent some paperwork" to Washington, DC.

The Palins are NOT well-off, unlike almost anybody else that's run for Presdient or V-P in modern times. They are one of the first truly middle-class families to be in this position.

Trig Palin, the baby: Sarah was delivering a keynote speech in Texas, and she started to go into early labor. She finished the speech. Then, she hopped on a plane to get back to Alaska. She made it barely and give birth to her son in Anchorage.

After Trig was born, she issued a press release that began, "God has blessed us . . ." She doesn't mention "God" much or really talk about her religious faith, but the God has blessed us remark is who the Palins are.

She and her husband seem to believe intensely that things happen in life for a reason, although sometimes we're darned if we can figure out what it is. She and Todd had Trig because that was in fact their choice. It was a choice informed by their beliefs regarding what life is all about.

One reason libertarians like her so much is that, in the Alaskan way, she believes strongly in providing people the liberty to make their own choices and conduct their own lifestyles. It's certainly not her style to go around berating people who disagree with her.

Yeah, she is SuperMom, but she has a tremendous support system from her husband, her parents, her sister, her husband's family, and her older children. Like many Alaskans, she and her husband go fishing. How else are you supposed to have enough fish for the winter? Like most Alaskans, she loves hunting.

Guns are not an issue in Alaska. Heck, they're not an issue in PA either. Everybody has one (except me).

She has made statements (you'll see them soon) about life and the purpose of life that are profound. She believes that politicians who go along to get along and cut moral corners are in violation of any sound ethical code. [More about that tomorrow]

She has been to Kuwait to visit soldiers there, and she's in charge of the Alaska National Guard. She's an expert on energy and a strong proponent of drilling in ANWR.

Unlike almost any other political figure, she sees American military life from the perspective of a soldier's mom.

HOW I BROKE THE SARAH PLAIN CHOICE STORY

I had a short post up at 2:30 a.m. that said I had information (from Sharon and one other) that Gov. Palin and her two teen-age daughters and perhaps others had flown from Anchorage to Dayton, where she would be named today McCain's running mate. To my relief and joy, it happened exactly that way in Dayton.

Sarah Palin reads this blog regularly. I used to get hits from her home town and the state capital of Juneau when she was there. When her son graduated from infantry training school at Ft. Benning, GA with Sarah and Todd present, I got my first hit from . . . Ft. Benning. You're always welcome Sarah!

The Palin-choice story came from people who put two-and-two together, and the media was still falling all over itself at 11 a.m. this morning. Charles Krauthammer said at 11 that McCain should choose Fred Thompson. Good God!

At that point, I said to my wife we already had enough old white guys (Biden, McCain) and we needed a woman, preferably Sarah . I went to sleep believing it was Sarah and woke up to her picture on the screen on FOX (and others?). I never bought the Campaign's decoy statement that, well everybody on the list was flying in (Romney, Pawlenty, Huckabee, the Easter Bunny, Peter Rabbit)

The national media -- a bunch of lazy oafs -- was mad because nobody told them first. Charles Cameron of FOX was the only one early this a.m. who did a process of elimination and came up with Sarah.

Then, the other people at FOX and CNN (and the idiots at MSNBC) dropped the ball. They thought it couldn't be Sarah because she wasn't on their list . . . and so how could he dare to nominate this (wonderful) woman they knew nothing about. Amazing.

When she gave the speech -- she had given others the media had ignored -- everyone else in the world knew immediately "how" McCain could select her. With the speech and that amazing family -- the working-class husband, the beautiful, unintimidated children -- Sarah blew everyone out of the water.

"Gee, where's she been?" Good question. Sometimes the very best things are right in front of us. She is Barack Obama's worst nightmare. She is an ethical person. She is extremely tough physically, psychologically, and spiritually.

She will beat Biden up very badly. He's a windbag, and she's a breath of fresh air.

"Who? When?

Republicans including, I imagine, Sen. McCain himself are asking these questions about his selection of a vice presidential candidate.Ideally, a presidential candidate wants a running mate who will help him or her win the election, and (maybe) to govern afterwards. But most will settle for a veep who isn't a drag on the ticket, as Dan Quayle was for the first President Bush.

Traditionally, a presidential nominee has chosen a running mate to balance the ticket

geographically, or to appease a faction of the party. The most successful example of this was when John F. Kennedy picked Lyndon Johnson, though neither liked the other, and LBJ joined the ticket only because he thought Kennedy would lose.Bill Clinton broke with this tradition when he chose another young (purported) moderate from a neighboring southern state. By picking Al Gore, he hoped to reinforce his campaign theme of generational change.

Which way will Sen. McCain go?

The potential running mates most often discussed have downsides nearly as great as their upsides. Gov. Tim Pawlenty helps only in Minnesota, and not enough, according to current polls, to make a difference there. Sen. McCain's friend Sen. Joe Lieberman would bring in some moderate Democrats, but could further antagonize conservatives already suspicious of Sen. McCain. Gov. Romney would have little appeal to working class whites unhappy with Sen. Obama, and evangelicals fret about that Mormon thing. A Huckabee nomination would irritate economic and foreign policy conservatives as much as it would please evangelicals.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is a rising star. But he's only 36, and he's been governor for less than a year.There is one potential running mate who has virtually no down side. Those conservatives who've heard of her were delighted to learn that McCain advance man Arthur Culvahouse was in Alaska recently, because they surmised he could only be there to discuss the vice presidential nomination with Gov. Sarah Palin.

At 44, Sarah Louise Heath Palin is both the youngest and the first female governor in Alaska's relatively brief history as a state. She's also the most popular governor in America, with an approval rating that has bounced around 90 percent.

This is due partly to her personal qualities. When she was leading her underdog Wasilla high school basketball team to the state championship in 1982, her teammates called her "Sarah Barracuda" because of her fierce competitiveness.Two years later, when she won the "Miss Wasilla" beauty pageant, she was also voted "Miss Congeniality" by the other contestants.Sarah Barracuda. Miss Congeniality.

Fire and nice.

A happily married mother of five who is still drop dead gorgeous. And smart to boot.But it's mostly because she's been a crackerjack governor, a strong fiscal conservative and a ferocious fighter of corruption, especially in her own party.Ms. Palin touches other conservative bases, some of which Sen. McCain has been accused of rounding.

Track, her eldest son, enlisted in the Army last Sept. 11. She's a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association who hunts, fishes and runs marathons. A regular churchgoer, she's staunchly pro-life. Kimberley Strassel of the Wall Street Journal said Sen. McCain should run against a corrupt, do-nothing Congress, a la Harry Truman.

If he should choose to do so, Gov. Palin would make an excellent partner "The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who have crossed Sarah," pollster Dave Dittman told the Weekly Standard's Fred Barnes.

Sen. Barack Obama's support has plunged recently among white women. Many Hillary Clinton supporters accuse him -- I think unfairly -- of being sexist. Having Sarah Palin on the ticket could help Sen. McCain appeal to these disgruntled Democrats.Running mates usually aren't named until the convention.

But if Sen. McCain should name Gov. Palin earlier, it would give America more time to get to know this extraordinary woman. And because she's at least a dozen feature stories waiting to be written, she could help him dominate the news between now and the conventions.Another reason for selecting Sarah Palin early would be to force Barack Obama to make a mistake.

He'd have to rule out choosing someone like Virginia Sen. Jim Webb as his running mate, for fear of exacerbating charges of sexism. And if he chose a woman other than Hillary, the impression Democrats are wimpy would be intensified.

Sarah Palin McCain's V-P Choice?

I'm getting word from Republican operatives in OK and FL that Gov. Sarah Heath Palin's charter plane from Alaska has just landed in Dayton, Ohio. That almost certainly would indicate she is John McCain's choice for V-P. If that is the case, much more about Sarah tomorrow. Sarah Palin is the mother of five, including an infant son, Trig, who was born with Down Syndrome. Her oldest son, Track, is an infantryman headed soon to Iraq or Afghanistan. This story comes from a woman I'd trust with my life.

You can also use President Clinton's statement that John McCain "has given everything he could to his country -- except his life."

Frankly, John McCain is an authentic American hero -- and Barack Obama is a classic Chicago politician. 'Nough said.

Hillary Clinton is a closet McCain Supporter. Whom do you really believe she will vote for on November 4? Senator Clinton, a long-time admirer of John McCain, has repeatedly said she believes Senator Obama is not ready for the presidency because he lacks the experience necessary to lead. She said,"In this election we need a nominee who can pass the Commander in Chief test. ... Senator McCain will bring a time of experience to the campaign. I will bring a lifetime of experience and Senator Obama will bring a speech he gave in 2002. Roger, Charles Say "Hillary, Please Don't!"

The following are e-mails from two broken-hearted Hillary Supporters dismayed at her actions. The first is from Roger, who donated a significant amount of his scarce resources to Hillary's Campaign. He says,

"If Hillary Clinton releases those delegates before the end of the convention, I will consider that as fraud! We know he can not get the nomination without that [release of Hillary delegates] and there was a hidden agenda from the start to just fleece Americans out of their money. I am demanding a full refund for every cent I contributed! I have sent her a letter to that effect. If she announces [her withdrawal] or in anyway releases her delegates, I expect a full refund! I am asking the same of Joe Biden also seeing how he lied to me about Obama. FLAT OUT LIED!

The following e-mail was written by Charles, another staunch Hillary backer. Like so many Hillary backers, he's have a hard time accepting what he sees and hears.

We know you [Hillary] were threatened, but don’t sell us down the river . We worked hard for one year with a vast network of hundreds of thousands of supporters of yours (and satellite groups). We gave money, time, and effort 24/7. Please don’t do what you are about to do [ask your supporters to back Obama].

The second you encourage your supporters to back a person like Obama (the most dishonest, corrupt person in politics)...our group will go through with our plans of working even harder to elect McCain....the Party will not be united. We ask you one more time...PLEASE HILLARY...blind-side the corrupt people who treated you like dirt and either tell your people to vote for McCain or simply walk on and off the stage without saying a word.

Obama will never win, I promise. Please realize that to give your delegates to Obama goes against everything you promised us in the Primaries. Don’t add insult to injury.

Now Obama gives Fla. and Mich. the full vote [at the Convention], knowing it doesn't mean anything since you're going to turn around and give them to him. Surely the people are not that stupid in both states to buy this "generosity" from Obama, a pathological liar.

Surely it’s not just me, but what is taking so damn long for someone… anyone… to give a straight answer. On Obama’s plane in route to Chicago this morning. The Precious One was asked about Hillary’s name being placed in nomination. His response was weak… to say the least. The written quote given at the NYTimes Political blog, as well as other blogs and so-called-news sites, was not an accurate transcript; it left out a LOT. I’ve taken care of that here, in the interest of accuracy:

Obama Says: “uh ah I uh ah I’m letting our our uh our respective teams work out the details,” Mr. Obama said. “uh ah I I uh ah I don’t think uh we’re looking for catharsis. I think what we are uh looking for is uh energy and excitement uh about the prospects of changing this country, and and uh I think that people who supported a whole range of different candidates during the primaries are going to come out of that uuuuh convention feeling absolutely determined that we’ve got uuh to take the White House back.”

The above quote indicates to me that Obama struggles to give an answer which is what he assumes the questioner wants to hear while trying to word it in a way that avoids actually making any commitment while doing so.

Political games aside, Obama hates the Clintons -- and the feeling is mutual.

Obama's Hillary-Boating Cristi Adkins

Cristi Adkins is mad as hell at Barack Obama, and she isn't going to take it -- his narcissistic, thuggish, dishonest campaign -- anymore. She's mad because Obama-bot have hacked your computers, sent her hate-filled e-mails, and even threatened her life. She refuses to be intimidated.

[On Sunday, I'll reveal "Obama's VP Text-Message Scam." Was Obama really sending out 3 a.m. messages on his Biden choice? Of course not. He was deceiving people with an "information grab," gathering cell phone numbers from individuals he'll contact many times -- perhaps always at 3 a.m.]

Cristi is one of the most effective "Hillary Supporters", a woman who's working 14-hour-days to ensure the defeat on Nov. 4 of the man she calls "Hussein." She calls him that because she believes -- correctly -- that he has only a tangential connection to American values.

His history demonstrates that he's much more at home in Kenya than in mainstream America, which is too "bitter" for his rarified tastes.Obama and his sycophants despise what Cristi, a co-founder of Clintons4McCain and NobamaMission, is doing, and they've responded by initiating a campaign of hatred and innuendo against her.

Cristi is a mom (two teenagers and a three-year-old), a wife, a veteran (former MP), and a nurse. The father of her two teenagers just came home from a combat tour in Afghanistan. In short, she's the kind of American with whom Obama and his fellow elitists have nothing in common.

Why does she bug Obama so much? Mainly because she's frequent guest on shows hosted by people by Neil Cavuto, Sean Hannity, Jim Bohannon. She's even been on the "Daily Show." Right now, she's headed to Denver to "Just Say No Deal" to Barack H. Obama. She's a force in contemporary politics.

For that reason, she's been the target of absurd attacks by bloggers who serve as cheerleaders for BHO. Many of the people reading this blog. Were you aware that Obama PAYS his bloggers? Most of them get roughly $7 an hour, and some apparently receive much more. That would come as news to people who visit their sites and believe they're getting something approximating "straight talk." In fact, those bloggers are presenting all the "news" that fits with the Obama agenda.

In our own NoBama Mission Bloggers, a brainchild of Cristi Adkins and others in the NoBama Mission effort, we will have 200 blogs by the end of this day. How many of them are paid by anyone? A grand total of zero. They are all volunteers -- just like me, just like Cristi, just like the other tens of thousand of people who center their lives around the NoBama effort.

One thing Cristi is asked is why she works with non-Democrats. Well, DUH! She founded Clintons4McCain. She didn't found Clintons4Nobody, or Clintons4theheckuvait. If you're against Obama with us, you're among friends.The NoBama effort is perhaps the most diverse coalition in American history.

It consists of Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and even a stray Libertarian or two. In that effort, there are liberals, moderates, and conservatives. There are no far-left crazies or America-haters, unlike Obama's own scary group.What binds our people of so many different views together is a commitment to the following statement: "Barack Obama is too inexperienced, too unqualified, too untrustworthy, and too dangerous to be POTUS."

Anyone who shares that view is welcome in our coalition.The hate campaign by Obama, his staffers, and his bought-and-paid for bloggers against Cristi is similar to the effort they waged against Hillary Clinton. Of course, she has been one of the more liberal members of the Clinton Administration and the U.S. Senate.

Many Black members of Congress backed her bid for the presidency. Those who did so are now being punished by Obama at the Democratic National Convention. Charlie Rangel, one of the most important members of the House and a Clinton backer, has NOT been invited to speak.

For her efforts on behalf of civil rights and liberal causes, Hillary Clinton was branded by Obama and his surrogates as a warmonger, a liar, and a racist. Geraldine Ferraro, also a long-time proponent of civil rights, was also labeled a racist, as was President Bill Clinton.

Given this background by Obama and his minions, it's no surprise that Cristi Adkins is under attack. Of course, she isn't being defamed for her statements about Obama, all of which are factual. Instead, they're trying to bleed her to death with a thousand pinpricks. She's accused of saying this (maybe) once, or of knowing this person or someone else, or of advocating this-or-that.

Does Cristi head right to the front-lines, where the chances of taking political shrapnel are the greatest? If you've ever seen her in action, you know she does. Also, she "pushs the envelope." She takes after "Hussein" in creative, imaginative ways. Most of these efforts work, and some don't, which is par for the course with risk-takers.

The main "charge" against Cristi is that she once was in a business venture that didn't work out. Big deal. There are probably 150 million Americans, including this one, who are in the same boat.

In fact, Cristi -- my friend and political ally -- is one of the single most effective spokeswomen in America against Obama. As long as that remains the case -- and it will through November 4 -- Obama and his meanspirited, robotic followers will try to destroy her.

In other words, they will try to "Hillary-boat" her, just as they did the junior Senator from New York.I have news for the man Cristi calls "Hussein." You will not succeed. You will not win this election. You are up against people who will not rest until John McCain send you back to the Chicago political machine that spawned you.

Democrats: Horror Stories, Intimidation, Anger

I've been printing one e-mail after another from Democrats who are disgusted with the fraud, sexism, and left-wing idiocy of their former political "home." In fact, the Democratic Party has become the haven for the corrupt, the socialistic, and the unpatriotic. That has been happening for years, of course, but Democrats are starting to notice, and the implications for the Party are not good.

Here's how Latonia, a Hillary Supporter, puts it:

"I don't understand why Republicans aren't trying to figure out how to come together and beat nobama. It seems that both parties have serious flaws. As soon as this election is over - I am going Independent - no party loyalties for me."

Also, consider the following messages from two long-time Democrats, both arden feminists. They're none too happy with Howard Dean, Donna Brazille, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and the Party's other "worthies." How is this showing up in the real world of politics? You can see the results in today's Zogby Poll, which I discuss on another blog.

Here's what Frances said in response to a friend who told her Hillary was caving in to the demands of King Barack:

"Your message suggests that "the fix is in." Why else would Obama go from 'We don't need catharsis' to a rapidly suspicious turn around--welcoming HRC's name being placed on the First Ballot at Convention, as if he had thought of it? By [Hillary's[ actively campaigning for him I can't help but consider her an abused woman standing by 'the man' after he bloodied her nose and blacked her eyes. If her arm has been twisted to make the motion to nominate BHO by acclamation, I will never vote Democratic again.

Frances adds: "[Hillary] may be a long suffering, loyalist Democrat, giving in to the bully boys. I am not. I will not, and I her 18 million Democrats will not vote by acclamation. The stolen delegates are like zombie stalkers and will haunt the party for decades to come. Her campaign was not out-organized. It was out-defrauded."

Frances' friend Ann, another former solid Democrat, responded this way: "Frances, you go girl. More than 18 million Dems and many more Independents (& all the Republicans) know you speak the truth."

It's important to know that it's not only Democratic women who are angry at what they increasingly see as their former Party. Consider the following e-mail I received from Fred B., a Democrat in north-central PA:

"Hi. My name is Fred B., and I'ms from [north central] Pa. I want to get involved in the campaign for McCain, and was wondering who I would have to talk to. I'm a Democrat and have worked previously for Democrats. That doesn't matter does it? Let me know what I can do."

I told him his Party affiliation didn't matter -- and it doesn't. Increasingly, I'm getting e-mails from across the country sent by people like Fred. They are the keys to McCain's good performance in the polls. It's critical that Republicans and Independents greet such people with open arms.

My friends, we are building a mighty coalition. Increasingly, there is a scent in the air that smells like victory!

A Democrat Who's Had Enough

You have done your job well. I don't know what to think of some of these people. Things change and I think the Democratic party has changed and is GONE. Get on with life and see where the Republican party will take you. I need structure, I need someone who knows what he is doing and not fidgeting in the dark.

You are right. This election is going to separate the boys from the men the girls from the women. What do you really want for you and your familes lives? I want what our forefathers wrote down in the constitution and BO has done everything but re-write the constitution and that is NOT GOING TO BE DONE ON MY WATCH.

I do understand your fatigue and you have been a good warrior. I will go into the hospital Tuesday for knee replacement and then be home until labor day. I will be going back to work then.

Things have to change on these boards after the convention. People have to get up and do and stay behind to suffer what BO can do.

I think of your often and praise all you have done in the name of your country. Stay calm, cool and collected. You have done a lot for McCain and he rewarded you well last night. He made a wonderful showing. I think the Republican party will be changing also for the good of the people with McCain...You have done a proud job for the party and your country. I will be water boarded before I vote for Obama. After what the DNC disenfranchised their own party members. I will be an independent after the convention. I will no longer be a Democrat. Has anyone thought of why Obama wrote an autobiography at 29 years old. I thought only people who were terminally ill wrote an autobiography before 30. Barry is going down this November.

Can Hillary Get Dem Nomination?

Short answer: "NO!"

Some of the people I work with in the NoBama Movement assure me that "Super Delegates are moving toward Hillary" and "she still has a chance, blah, blah, blah." I ask them if any of the (imaginary) SDs have a name or are located in specific states. So far, I have not received one name. That's because there are no such SDs.

In fact, the opposite is happening, and I give names of former Hillary Supporters (like Evan Bayh and Ed Rendell) who are now "strongly" supporting Obama. The most-disliked people in the world are those, perhaps including yours truly, who tell the truth and in so doing, puncture people's illusions. As one poet put it, "Humankind can not bear very much reality."

I have many friends who are Hillary Supporters, and I always ask them to do what their hearts and heads tell them. At the same time, I believe valuable time is being lost with the misguided focus on "Denver." In fact, Denver is going to be a disaster for Hillary Supporters -- and, more to the point, for America.

As I put it recently, there are "911 people in America who believe Hillary can get the nomination, and I am on a first-name basis with all of them. Unfortunately, one of those 911 people is NOT named Hillary Clinton."

My Comments on the Much-Maligned George W. Bush

On Russia's obscene, thuggish invasion of Georgia: To this point, George W. Bush has done and said everything right -- along with the remarkable Condi Rice. The Democrats, including Barack Obama, have offered no insights or suggestions.

Instead, as usual, they sit and wait for something to go wrong so they can blame the ever-useful scapegoat GWB. At his best, GWB is leading a country called the United States of America. At their worst (their "default position"), his political opponents are preserving their "options," the better to protect their "careers" in government. To them, the concept of "country" is no more than a bloodless abstraction.

For all his deficiencies, GWB loves his country. I have seen no evidence that Obama loves his, whichever it might be. Historians, rather than pollsters, judge presidencies.

The first President I really remember was Harry S. Truman. He was in an endless war (Korea) where some 55,000 Americans died. His approval rating was much lower than GWB's.

Now, many students of government see HST as one of our best Presidents -- I certainly do.

In 1952, however, he was an object of widespread scorn.

There's an important new book by Prof. Lawrence Freedman, a British subject, on what we've come to know as "The War on Terrorism." He points out that Presidents like FDR and HST faced a dangerous world, but one in which the issues (and the enemy) were much clearer. In our world, it's not that way.

How will history judge GWB? Relatedly, how will it judge Bill Clinton and his own efforts against terrorism? After Nov. 5, I'll give my own unvarnished views on the two men and their respective efforts to protect the people of America. We haven't had a terrorist attack since 9/11, and somehow I don't believe any credit should go to Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Reid, and their merry bands of political opportunists.

Obama? Under his presidency I expect many gloom-laden speeches from the Oval Office, but the overall rhetoric will be high-minded. The body count, unfortunately, will be very high, since the folks at al Qaeda, Inc. see him correctly as a lightweight.

Someone once said, "Life is a terrible teacher. First, it gives you the test -- and only then does it teach you the lesson." That has never been more true than during recent times.

Hillary Democrats: Change Parties, Please

"2016: By that time, after eight years of an Obama presidency, America will be lucky if it's still a country."

I sent the material below to Lyn, a wonderful person in the NoBama Movement who was trying to come up with creative ways to influence the "SuperDelegates" (perhaps the most timid and frightened individuals on the planet). The SDs remind me of the character in the Flannery O'Connor short story ("A Good Man is Hard to Find") of whom it was said, "She would have been a good woman -- if someone had a gun to her head 24 hours a day."

Lyn, it was a very good idea (buying Corsi's book and giving to SDs), but I think we're stymied. I want you to know -- and any other people who get this note -- that I care a great deal about everyone in the NoBama Movement. I also want you to know that, like you, conscience and country matter to me about one thousand times more than Party -- any political party. That said . . .

I don't think there is any chance in the world (barring something totally unforeseen) that Barack Obama will not be the nominee of the Democratic Party. I do believe, as an observer, that the Party is broken, and I wonder if it will be fixed anytime soon. I don't say those things to hurt people's feelings; I say them because they're obvious.

I don't blame anyone who follows his or her heart and head, because I do so myself.

Today, a friend sent me an article (and a video) critical of John Kerry, who is a hero to some people (a diminishing number). Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and Gov. Patrick all endorsed Obama even though their state, Massashusetts, went for Hillary by a huge margin. My own Democratic congressman, Jason Altmire, supports Obama although his district went two-to-one for Hillary. My own county voted for Hillary 28,000 to 12,000.

What I ask my friends in the Democratic Party is this: what are YOU going to do about these people (and include Howard Dean, Donna Brazille, and Nancy Pelosi, along with many other colleagues of HRC who turned their backs on ther)? If the answer is nothing, as I fear it may be from too many people, then they have the Party they deserve.

In 2016, the Party will perhaps nominate a Howard Dean-Donna Brazile ticket, and Democrats will be told to take-it-or-leave it. Some Democrats will be wandering around thinking, "Now, should I vote for Dean-Brazile, or should I consider the (shudder, shudder) Republican candidate?"

By that time, America, after eight years of Barack Obama, will be lucky if it's still a country.

In my view, the Party of FDR, Harry S Turman, and JFK has ceased to exist. People need to begin to look elsewhere for their political allegiances. To those who consider Barack H. Obama a suitable candidate for POTUS, they have my wishes for a speedy recovery.

As author O'Connor said, "a good man is hard to find." And Barack Obama isn't that man.

Bartoshevich, from the Racine, Wisconsin area, was elected a Hillary Clinton delegate to the Democratic National Convention. When she announced she would vote for John McCain in the General Election, the state Party quickly stripped her of her rights to attend the Convention as a Clinton supporter.

Perlson has clashed memorably with the militant anti-war group CODEPINK. That group has conducted anti-military demonstrations before Congress and at a Berkeley, California Marine recruiting center.

Medea Benjamin, CODEPINK co-founder, has called Perlson and her soldier son “terrorists.” In response, Perlson said, “I have a message for you, Medea. Get out of our country.”

CODEPINK, along with Moveon.org of “General Betray-us” infamy, has been provided major financial backing for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. Jodie Evans, a CODEPINK co-founder, has served as “bundler” of Obama’s campaign donations.

Debra Bartoshevich, an emergency room nurse, received national attention for her pro-Clinton, pro-democracy, anti-Obama stance.

After the Democratic Party stripped her of her Convention credentials, she and her 16-year-old daughter met with Sen. John McCain.

He described Bartoshevich as “a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat.” He praised her courage in putting conscience and country ahead of Party.

On the radio program, Bartoshevich will discuss intimidation and strong-arm tactics being used by Democratic Party officials against Hillary Supporters.

Perlson will talk about how the political gamesmanship played by far-left members of Congress endangers the lives of soldiers like her son.

Both women will highlight why they’ve become strong members of the NoBama coalition.

Co-hosts on the program will be “NoBama” political activists Steve Maloney, from Pennsylvania, and Anne M. Franklin of Texas.

Urgent Message to a "Soldier4Hillary"

Hi Sgt. Rogers (soldier4hillary) and Others: I think Aug. 30 would be a great time for Rogers to appear on the radio show, right after the Democratic Convention and right before the Republican convention. This Saturday Debra Bartoshevich, the "defrocked" Hillary delegate from Wisconsin, will be on the show with military mom Bev Perlson.

Late-August will be a critical time for Hillary Supporters, many of whom are wondering what their next move should be. As I've said many times, Hillary Supporters are "normal Americans," whereas many Obama Supporters actually detest their own country and yearn for it lose the war in Iraq. It's essential that Hillary Supporters know there are tens of millions of Americans who feel solidarity with them.

The DNC's campaign of intimiation against Hillary Supporters should not go unchallenged. This is our country, and the political Parties should reflect the will of the people who have been supportive of them. They should not be allowed to turn the Parties into enterprises that bully average Americans, tell them how to vote, and generally ignore calls for democratic reform.

My main point is this: Hillary Supporters should know they are NOT alone. And they have every right as Americans to put their conseience and their country above the wishes of political Party bosses.

Who Are Those "Hillary Supporters?"

One of the fascinating elements for me in working with the Hillary Supporters (for months now) is how much they fit into the category of "normal Americans," people who love their country and have a lot in common with their "normal American" Republican counterparts.

I've been impressed by the many Hillary Supporters -- in the millions -- that have disregarded Sen. Clinton's somewhat mystifying guidance that they should support Obama. She can't have meant what she said in the campaign if she now believes Obama is acceptable. Politicians who value Party over Country are out-of-touch with most Americans.

The other key discovery is how psychologically "invested" many people -- especially women -- are in Sen. Clinton. She represented their hopes and dreams, and her defeat came as a catastrophe. What helped me understand this situation was the defeat of my dear friend and political ally Diana Irey in her 2006 race against Cong. Jack Murtha. That one was hard to take.

My view of Sen. Clinton, whom I did not support and disagreed with on every major issue, is much different from that of a lot of people in Clintons4McCain and NoBama Mission. Hillary advocates collective responsibility ("it takes a village") and I believe any collective responsibility will not work unless it's preceded by individual responsibility ("it takes parents"). Frankly, we can't take care of others if we don't first take care (for the most part) of ourselves.

Recently, I've been suggesting (pleading?) with people NOT to hold Sen. Clinton to low standards -- basically, to keep them from rationalizing any questionable action she takes. I keep hearing she is being "forced" (by whom?) to take actions.

If you google "gun to her head," you will find untold thousands of links, all to Hillary Clinton. Where's the "gun?" Who's holding it? If one asks those questions, the responses range from anger to hurt feelings. So, they don't get asked.

Recently, I was criticized by two people (on a mailing that went out to 500 individuals) for bringing up the "Politico" piece on the leaked memos from the Clinton campaign. The two critics said it was "a bunch of men covering their butts," which it was in part. They also thought that questioning Hillary's leadership ("ready on day one") in the chaos that afflicted her campaign was improper, which it was not.

Many new political "stars" -- activists -- have emerged from the Clinton developments. One is Anne Franklin; another is Cristi Adkins (the darling of FOX News); and a third is Jean Avery, the Seattle "mom." There are many others --- and I mean many, not all of them American citizens.

Mark Penn, the top campaign strategist for Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign, advised her to portray Barack Obama as having a “limited” connection “to basic American values and culture,” according to a forthcoming article in The Atlantic.

The magazine reports Penn suggested getting much rougher with Obama in a memo on March 30, after her crucial wins in Texas and Ohio: “Does anyone believe that it is possible to win the nomination without, over these next two months, raising all these issues on him? ... Won’t a single tape of [the Reverend Jeremiah] Wright going off on America with Obama sitting there be a game ender?”

Atlantic Senior Editor Joshua Green writes that major decisions during her campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination would be put off for weeks until suddenly Clinton “would erupt, driving her staff to panic and misfire.”

Green reports that on a staff conference call in January where Clinton received “little response” or “silence” to several of her suggestions for how to recover from the Iowa loss and do better in New Hampshire, “Clinton began to grow angry, according to a participant’s notes,” Green recounts. “‘This has been a very instructive call, talking to myself,’ she snapped, and hung up.”

The eight-page blockbuster, “The Front-Runner’s Fall,” draws on internal memos, e-mails and meeting notes to reveal what the magazine’s September issue calls “the backstabbing and conflicting strategies that produced an epic meltdown.”

Penn, the presidential campaign’s chief strategist, wrote in a memo to Clinton excerpted in the article: “I cannot imagine America electing a president during a time of war who is not at his center fundamentally American in his thinking and in his values.”

A key take-away from the article is that Clinton received a lot of accurate advice, including from Penn. He wrote a remarkably prescient memo in March 2007 about the importance of appealing to what he called “the Invisible Americans,” specifically “WOMEN, LOWER AND MIDDLE CLASS VOTERS” — exactly the groups that helped Clinton beat Obama in key states nearly a year later. But no one synthesized and acted on the good advice.

“The anger and toxic obsessions overwhelmed even the most reserved Beltway wise men,” Green writes. “[H]er advisers couldn’t execute strategy; they routinely attacked and undermined each other, and Clinton never forced a resolution. ... [S]he never behaved like a chief executive, and her own staff proved to be her Achilles’ heel.

“What is clear from the internal documents is that Clinton’s loss derived not from any specific decision she made but rather from the preponderance of the many she did not make.”

Geoffrey Garin, a well-known Democratic pollster who helped direct the campaign’s strategy team for Clinton’s presidential campaign during its final two months, wrote in a memo to at least 10 top campaign aides that he wanted to stop “end runs” around communications director Howard Wolfson.

“I don’t mean to be an asshole, but ... changes to important statements and other critical campaign communications simply have to go through Howard,” Garin wrote on April 12. “Howard is the person who is ultimately responsibility for making sure that we deliver our messages the right way, and I hope everyone will support and respect him in that role.”

Robert Barnett, the superlawyer and longtime Clinton adviser, e-mailed about 20 Clinton aides on March 6, with the subject line “STOP IT !!!!”: “This circular firing squad that is occurring is unattractive, unprofessional, unconscionable and unacceptable. ... After this campaign is over, there will be plenty of time to access blame or claim credit.”

Another part of that e-mail was quoted in The New York Times in a June article by Peter Baker and Jim Rutenberg.

Hillary Clinton Rationalizing Bad Behavior

By endorsing Obama, Hillary Clinton is leaving many of her strongest supporters distraught. If you scroll down, I reprint a letter to Sen. Clinton from her once-staunch backer, Barbara in California. I'm exasperated by the tendency of some people who admire Sen. Clinton to excuse anything she does, no matter how harmful it may be.

One of my friends in the NoBama Mission Movement recently wrote the following excuse for what Sen. Clinton is being "forced" [sic] to do.

"Hillary is being forced to tell everyone to vote for BO while he is kicking back on vacation in Hawaii!!!"

DailyKos.com and Moveon.org are the dominant forces in the modern Democratic Party. Both of them despise Hilary Rodham Clinton. She knows that, to have a possible future as President, she has to satisfy those despicable groups. Is that the real explanation for the bad decisions she's made lately?

(Elizabeth Edwards posted on Daily Kos her statement about her husband's supposed "honesty" and the supposedly unfair treatment they received from media outlets (few) who were telling the truth about her husband.)

Here's how I responded to my friend who made the 'forced" statement:

As you know I respectfully disagree with you about Sen. Clinton and her recent behavior. No one can "force" her to do anything. She has the same freedom and responsibility as any other American.

If John McCain could not be forced to do unethical things while he was being tortured in a a Communist prison camp, others -- including HRC -- should have the courage to emulate him.

I realize that many Democrats, especially women, have a great deal of psychic energy tied up with the (flawed) candidacy of Sen. Clinton. Unfortunately, they've attempted to turn her into "St. Hillary," the leader who can do no wrong. We've learned lately, unfortunately, that she's not the person many of her supporters thought she was.

Look up on Google the phrase "gun to her head," and you'll find thousands of links. The popular phrase reflects the rationalization that the bad things HRC is doing are the result of pressure from the Democratic poobahs, such as Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, and Barack Obama.

Let's be honest, okay? Sen. Clinton and her husband are extremely wealthy individuals. Her Senate seat in New York is secure -- probably for as long as she lives. In her campaign, she made the point that Sen. Obama is not ready -- and may never be ready -- to be POTUS. Are we now to assume that she meant almost nothing she said about Obama in the primaries? If so, this leaves her with a severely diminished status.

Frankly, the rationalizations for HRC's extremely bad behavior drive me nuts. If she's incapable of real leadership and integrity, why on earth are people continuing not just to support -- and idolize -- her?

A leader must lead -- not sit around determining what is the most politically expedient thing for them to do. Sen. Clinton's supporters expected more from her than she's chosen to give them.

Michelle Obama uses the terms 'separationist' and 'integrationist' when describing the views of black people.

Mrs. Obama clearly identifies herself with a 'separationist' view of race. 'By actually working with the Black lower class or within their communities as a result of their ideologies, a separationist may better understand the desperation of their situation and feel more hopeless about a resolution, as opposed to an integrationist who is ignorant to their plight.'

She wrote that the path she chose by attending Princeton would likely lead to
her 'further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure
that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full
participant.'

Frankly, Michelle Obama is a person who had -- and has -- a huge chip on her shoulder. Not only does she seem to embrace separate black and white societies in America, but she elevates one -- black -- over white. She's no Martin Luther King. She's no Rosa Parks.

More about her thesis: The conclusion is alarming.

Michelle Obama's poll of black alumni concludes that other black students at Princeton do not share her obsession with blackness. But rather than celebrate, she is horrified that black alumni identify with our common American culture more than they value the color of their skin. 'I hoped that these findings would help me conclude that despite the high degree of
identification with whites as a result of the educational and occupational path that black Princeton alumni follow, the alumni would still maintain a certain level of identification with the black community. However, these findings do not support this possibility.'

Is it no wonder that most black alumni ignored her racist questionnaire? Only 89 students responded out of 400 who were asked for input. Michelle Obama does not look into a crowd of Obama supporters and see Americans. She sees black people and white people eternally conflicted.

The thesis provides a trove of Mrs. Obama's thoughts and world view seen through a race-based prism. This is a very divisive view for a potential first lady that would do untold damage to race relations in this country in a Barack Obama administration.

Bill Clinton Backing John McCain?

I have a report from a credible source that Bill Clinton at the end of the Democratic primaries was talking enthusiastically about "President McCain." I'm trying to get permission to reprint the material I received. The problem is that it could possibly compromise a political operative who's now working hard to defeat Obama . That's all I can say right now, but I'm sure there will be more in the coming days.

Frankly, as part of an Obama Campaign strategy, Bill Clinton's reputation was serious tarnished in the Democratic Primaries. He obviously wants to speak his mind on that subject. Holding him up on doing so is his desire not to anger the current poohbahs (Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, Nancy Pelosi, and others) in the Party. Frankly, Bill needs to stop pretending that all is well in the Democratic Party. (He might start by scrolling down and reading my piece about how the historic Democratic Party no longer exists.)

Bill Clinton has said that Obama -- and the Obama Campaign -- used the "race card" against him. He's also suggested they used it against his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton. In that assessment, the former President is right on target. Obama is now obviously trying to use race against John McCain -- the remarks about his [Black] face on the currency being the latest example. The Obama Campaign has long been trying to spread the idea that a vote against him is a vote for racism -- something they believe will scare Democrats into voting for Party rather than country.

It's time -- and it's almost past time -- for Bill and Hillary to step up to the plate. They need to renounce Barack Obama before the Denver Convention. Bill has said he'll be ready to speak out on November 5. That may be too late. Bill needs to speak NOW from his heart and head.

THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE

Hillary would be shunned by the Party if she came out against Obama. Many years ago John F. Kennedy wrote a book (with Ted Sorensen) called "Profiles in Courage." I want HRC and WJC to earn a place in such a future book.

My argument has always been that there the Party of FDR, JFK, and HST does not exist anymore. Of course, Harry Truman knew that by going into Korea to stop the North's invasion that he would be vilified and probably could not win re-election in 1952, by which time not 4,000 American had been killed, but rather 50,000.In 1952, Truman's "approval rating" was much lower than Bush's is now. The nuns at my elementary schools made an (unprecedented) announcement that President Truman would not run again.

As for Roosevelt, he came near to risking impeachmnet by going against Congress to assist Great Britain prior to Pearl Harbor. It is now the Party of Donna Brazile, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Claire McCaskill, John Kerry, Robert Casey, Harry Reid, Richard Durbin, and Barack H. Obama.

There is not some other idealized, Platonic (Democratic) Party that exists apart from such people. Right now, it is able to do harm -- as in blocking any sort of decent energy policy -- but it is not yet able to dominate every aspect of American society. That will of course change if Barack H. Obama is elected President and then of course re-elected by an increasingly dependent society in 2012. "I would rather lose an election than lose a war." (John McCain)

I believe there some Democrats -- Mary Landieu of La is one, Joe Lieberman of CT is another -- who would say something similar (not on the War perhaps but on anything), yet there are not enough.

Some of my dear friends in Beaver County (pro-life, pro-God, pro-guns, the ones Obama despises) are preparing to vote for a candidate because he -- Obama -- is "the Democrat." They persist in the illusion that the Party of JFK still exists. It doesn't, and it shows no signs of reappearing.

Hillary, Bill MUST Denounce Obama

"I'd rather lose the presidency than lose a war." (John McCain)

For use in the General Election, it's important to have on hand all statements by HRC and President Clinton critical of Barack Obama -- his inexperience and his use of the "race card" in an attempt to destroy Bill Clinton. Nothing that is said in a campaign -- at least nothing that's not retracted or sincerely apologized for -- can be dismissed as not relevant.

I hope the McCain Campaign uses the "3 a.m. red phone call" ad and explains precisely what it means in the context of Sen. Clinton's statement that "I have a lifetime of experience. Sen. McCain has a lifetime of experience. Sen. Obama has a speech [questioning the wisdom of the Iraq War] in 2002."

Bill Clinton accurately accused the Obama Campaign -- and the candidate -- of using the "race card" (basically, claims that President Clinton was a racist) to win the nomination. I believe Sen. McCain should use those comments as a centerpiece of his campaign against Obama.

I call on Sen. Clinton -- and I hope everyone else will do the same -- to denounce the campaign of Barack H. Obama. Country must come before Party, frankly, or else it turns politics into the sleaziest game imaginable. As with Sen. McCain in Vietnam and as a POW, country must come ahead of one's "career opportunities." McCain risked both his "career," which clearly meant little to him -- and his life, as President Clinton observed in a memorable speech.

At this point in our country's history, Sen. Clinton has a moral obligation to take steps that probably will destroy her aspirations to become President. It's what I would do, and I believe it's what everyone reading this piece would do. "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask rather what you can do for your country."

How McCain Defeats Obama

I received the following message from a person (don't know name, but must find it out) at www.hillaryisourchoice.com: "She" is joining NoBama Mission Bloggers. Her site is: http://hillaryisourchoice.com/

She adds, "I also have a very extensive email list..so let me know when you want a mass mailing. Thanks."

We need the names (first name is okay) and e-mail addresses of people like this. I told her that the mailing list is "golden." If this person has 50 (or 100 -- or 500 -- or 5000) on the her list, she can ask people to join her in opposing the election of Barack H. Obama. If friends, family members, and other connections realize this person is opposing Obama -- for some compelling reasons -- it will influence how they vote.

The reasons for opposing Obama? That he is unqualified (no foreign policy or military experience), inexperienced (half a term in the U.S. Senate, most of it spent on the campaign trail), too untrustworthy (telling false stories about his life and "accomplishments"), and too dangerous (suggesting that the U.S. might "reinvade" Iraq and that we might invade Pakistan, an ally and one with nuclear bombs). This message works to create doubts about -- and opposition to -- Obama.

What about positives regarding Obama's opponent who, in the General Election, would be John McCain. That time will come (soon), and the positives are the opposite of Obama's deficiencies. McCain is qualified, experienced, honest, and NOT dangerous. He is right on critical issues (such as producing more domestic energy and thus helping keep prices down) where Obama is just plain wrong. Rather than having to invent imaginary "uncles" with bogus military "accomplishments," McCain (and his father and grandfather) achieved exemplary records of military service and foreign policy knowledge.

The key is to contact people who will in turn contact others. The goal is to send out messages that have a cascading effect. If someone sends out 60 "NoBama" messages to people who in turn send out 60 messages (some will send more, some will send fewer), then there are 3600 contacts. If each of the 3600 new contacts send out 60 messages, we're up around 200,000. If the 200,000 send out another 60 e-mails, then we're up around 12 million. And if the 12 million in turn send out, then the total contacts could exceed the population of the U.S.!

Of course, it won't be exactly that easy. It will necessary to urge people to contact everyone they can -- face-to-face, over the phone, or through the Internet -- in order to ensure victory in November.

The point to get across to people like "hillaryisourchoice" is that "somebody else" is not going to do the job of making important contacts about the need to defeat Obama. You and I, along with everyone else in the NoBama Movement, must do the things -- make the contacts -- necessary to win the Nov. 4 election.

Within a day or so, you will be able to find NoBama fliers at: http://clintons4mccain.com. What if you don't like something in the fliers made available? In that case, use the fliers as a model -- and create your own. This is largely a "do-it-yourself" effort.

Winning that election is crucail to achieving the other changes many people want, such as reforming BOTH political candidates and ensuring that future candidates don't come with the liabilities of a Barack Obama.

Right now, we have a Congress controlled by Nancy Pelosi, one of the main villains who torpedoed the campaign of Hillary Clinton. That Congress, rather than dealing with sky-high energy prices, has now gone on vacation for five weeks! The lack of concern for the American public is appalling.

We can do better. We MUST do better.

Dear Blogger or Web Hoster or other onliner committed to just saying "NoBama": Things are really heating up in the united effort to make sure the next President of the U.S. is NOT named Barack H. Obama. In the most recent Gallup Poll pitting BHO against John McCain, the latter came out ahead by four points among likely voters.

Right now in several states there's an urgent need for people who will volunteer to communicate with their fellow voters (including by e-mail and phone). Two states that are winnable with a sustained effort are Nevada (close) and Pennsylvania (the race has tightened significantly). The people now on the ground in those states (and others) truly need your help.

Bulletin: Right now on TV in PA, Obama is counter-attacking McCain's commercial blaming BHO for high gas prices. (McCain was using a metaphor, tying Obama to all those extremely liberal legislators who never want to produce another kilowatt or barrel of energy.) McCain was correct, and the clueless Obama doesn't even know why. I believe very much in wind and solar -- so does McCain -- but they will be big about 2035 or 2040. Between then and now, we are going to need a lot of energy, and Barack's idea of solving the problem is to let gasoline go to, oh, say, $7-$8 a gallon. Obama has no energy plan, and the would-be Emperor has no clothes.

Debbie Bartoshevich is a former Democratic delegate from Wisconsin who supported Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, and vowed to vote for Sen. John McCain. The Wisconsin Democratic Party took away her convention credentials.

Clearly, the DNC has forgotten what country this is. Ms. Bartoshevich is right to leave the Party, which actually left her and other normal Americans long ago. The Party is now in complete control of the extremists who financed and supported Barack H. Obama.

It's frankly time for Democrats and patriots to wake up from the nightmare that their Party has become. Ms. Bartoshevich has recognized that the Party is broken, and it's not likely to get fixed anytime soon.

They do, however, want their votes. The woman in WI was duly elected and there is no reason for the DNC to dump her. There is at least one McCain delegate who appeared in a pro-Obama commercial. I haven't heard anybody saying he should be thrown up the bus.

The McCain Campaign intends to win New York and New Jersey . . . states that went strongly for Sen. Clinton in the primaries but are being taken for granted by Barack H. Obama.

That "loud bang" we all just heard was the beginning of the General Election.

I urge all Hillary Supporters in PA NOT to vote for Jason Altmire (4th CD), Patrick Murphy (8th CD), or Tim Holden (17th CD). All of them went against their constituents and stabbed Sen. Clinton in the back. Vote instead for Melissa Hart, Tom Manion, and Toni Gilhooley, all of whom are honorable and courageous people. They need your support.

As for Allyson Schwartz (13th CD), Paul Kanjorski (11th CD), and Joe Sestak (7th CD), they're all now apparently supporting Barack H. Obama. He's the same man who called Pennsylvanians "bitter" people "clinging" to guns and God. Obama has no grasp of who Pennsylvanians are -- and frankly, neither do the Congressmen I've cited. It makes no sense to vote for people who destroyed Mrs. Clinton's chances to win the nomination.

Unity Journalists Mere Obama Shills

Scroll down below the following paragraph and you'll find the sad story about the minority journalists at today's (Sunday's) "Unity" Journalism Forum being addressed by "St. Barack." The following paragraph is my response.

Journalists shouldn't be seeking "unity," which in this case is another name for groupthink. Journalists should be seeking honesty, candor, and, yes, objectivity. Frankly, minority journalists -- and even the MSM -- have broken next-to-nothing of value about Barack Obama, his wife, or his life. Barack Obama remains to many people "the man no one knows," or, as he described himself, "a blank screen." Journalists, minority or otherwise, are supposed to fill in that screen. From the [following] story about the people attending the "unity" event, they should not be carrying pads, pens, and laptops, but rather poms poms to wave at "St. Barack." I've taught many journalists in my lifetime, and I doubt many of them would be comfortable acting like cheerleaders. Many of the minority journalists, including Chicago's Leonard Pitts, should be seeking honest work. In his comments, Pitts suggests that members of minority groups can't be serious journalists. His remarks are shameful, but I doubt he will ever grasp that.

Can minority journalists resist applauding Obama?

CHICAGO (AP) - When Barack Obama ascends the stage Sunday at the Unity journalism convention, fresh from an exhaustively chronicled overseas tour, he will face a surprisingly divided audience.Not on the subject of whether Obama should be president - members of the four minority organizations that comprise Unity are largely Democratic.

But many at the quadrennial gathering differ on whether the underlying current of enthusiasm for Obama's historic candidacy should be constrained or allowed to spill forth on live television.In addition to race, the issue boils down to questions of human emotion, empathy versus ethics, and whether a group that has experienced its own share of prejudice can resist responding to Obama's powerful oratory and potent symbolism.

"This is not a pep rally," said Tonju Francois, a producer for CNN en Espanol and board member of the National Association of Black Journalists. "I don't want to say it's offensive, but the idea that just because he's a black candidate, somehow our journalistic ethics would go out the window ... I think we need to behave."

So does Unity. In an e-mail sent to the 6,800 conference attendees,the organization advised that "every effort should be made to maintain professional decorum during the event, especially since it will be broadcast to millions of people."

Yet the same diversity embodied by Unity itself can blur the definition of decorum."People don't view (attending Obama's speech) as work," said Connie Llanos, a reporter for the Los Angeles Daily News and member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. "We're not going to write about it, so you're allowed to voice your emotion or feeling."

Still, "people shouldn't be throwing underwear," said Veronica Garcia,a NAHJ board member and copy editor who spent 17 years at the Los Angeles Times. "We're journalists. We should strive to be a little objective."Conservatives have spent years decrying a liberal media bias;Democrats fought over how Hillary Clinton's primary coverage compared with Obama's.

This week, the campaign of John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, sniped at the media constellation chasing Obama on his excursion through the Middle East and Europe. And questions of personal politics have plagued journalists of all backgrounds.

But even against this backdrop, the Unity journalists face some unique pressures. In 2004, Democrat John Kerry inspired a standing ovation;President Bush got a few boos during his speech, which disturbed some of the journalists present.

This year, McCain declined an invitation to appear at Unity, citing scheduling conflicts.Barbara Ciara, president of NABJ and the anchor/managing editor at WTKR in Norfolk, Va., said it would be inappropriate "to show enthusiasm on any level" on Sunday because of a perception that minority journalists' coverage is slanted by their ethnicity."Maybe I'm a little bit old school, but I do believe there's a trust we have to achieve with our audience of viewers, listeners and readers," she said.

"In order to trust you, they have to believe you're going to act dispassionately. You can't start jumping around like a little bumblebee just because a bee that looks like you is in the room."Leonard Pitts, the Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for the Miami Herald, believes that media objectivity is "a fairy tale we're supposed to pledge allegiance to." As one of the panelists who will question Obama on Sunday, he's more concerned with being fair to both sides, and he isn't bothered by the prospect of a few extra cheers.

"It's asking a little bit much to ask a room full of African-American journalists, or a room full of journalists of color, who have seen people like them and probably seem themselves excluded many times on the basis of color, not to have some sort of emotional reaction to the success of the person who may arguably become the first African-American president," said Pitts, who is black.The fear at the convention, especially among veterans, is that emotions will run amok given the many young journalists, public relations professionals and sponsors in attendance.

"Taking pictures afterward, asking for autographs, acting like groupies," said Alfredo Araiza, a photographer for the Arizona Daily Star. He and Ramon Chavez, a University of Oklahoma journalism professor and member of the Native American Journalists Association,led a student seminar at Unity on how to act professionally at news conferences."I have the feeling the exact opposite will happen here," said Chavez.

So does Nicole Newsum, a 27-year-old public relations executive who described herself as "obsessed" with the candidate. "I'll be screaming," she said.

Said Luz Villarreal, an associate producer for "Dateline NBC": "I don't think it's such a bad thing if for 15 minutes you take off your reporter hat and respond to (Obama) as a human being at an event where you're surrounded by people of color and you're here for a united cause."In the new media world of attack blogs, pundit power and felled newspapers, perhaps Obama's candidacy is marking yet another milestone.

"Barack Obama is the Jackie Robinson of our era," said Pitts, the columnist. "There's no getting around that, there's no asking people not to respond to that. ... Journalists are recruited from the human race. And as long as they're recruited from the human race they're going to have emotions, and they're going to have feelings."

Why Jesse Jackson Hates Obama

A few weeks ago, the Rev. Jesse Jackson made something of a fool of himself. There he was -- a historical figure in his own right -- threatening the castration of Barack Obama. It was sad to see.

If I have often criticized Mr. Jackson, I have also, reservedly, admired him. He is a late 20th century outcropping of a profoundly American archetype: the self-invented man who comes from nothing and, out of sheer force of personality, imposes himself on the American consciousness. If he never reached the greatness to which he aspired, he nevertheless did honor to the enduring American tradition of bold and unapologetic opportunism.

But now -- not looking old so much as a bit lost within the new Obama aura -- it is clear that Jesse Jackson has come to a kind of dénouement. Some force that once buoyed him up now seems spent.

Mr. Jackson was always a challenger. He confronted American institutions (especially wealthy corporations) with the shame of America's racist past and demanded redress. He could have taken up the mantle of the early Martin Luther King (he famously smeared himself with the great man's blood after King was shot), and argued for equality out of a faith in the imagination and drive of his own people. Instead -- and tragically -- he and the entire civil rights establishment pursued equality through the manipulation of white guilt.

Their faith was in the easy moral leverage over white America that the civil rights victories of the 1960s had suddenly bestowed on them. So Mr. Jackson and his generation of black leaders made keeping whites "on the hook" the most sacred article of the post-'60s black identity.

They ushered in an extortionist era of civil rights, in which they said to American institutions: Your shame must now become our advantage. To argue differently -- that black development, for example, might be a more enduring road to black equality -- took whites "off the hook" and was therefore an unpardonable heresy. For this generation, an Uncle Tom was not a black who betrayed his race; it was a black who betrayed the group's bounty of moral leverage over whites.

And now comes Mr. Obama, who became the first viable black presidential candidate precisely by giving up his moral leverage over whites.

Mr. Obama's great political ingenuity was very simple: to trade moral leverage for gratitude. Give up moral leverage over whites, refuse to shame them with America's racist past, and the gratitude they show you will constitute a new form of black power. They will love you for the faith you show in them.

So it is not hard to see why Mr. Jackson might have experienced Mr. Obama's emergence as something of a stiletto in the heart. Mr. Obama is a white "race card" -- moral leverage that whites can use against the moral leverage black leaders have wielded against them for decades. He is the nullification of Jesse Jackson -- the anti-Jackson.

And Mr. Obama is so successful at winning gratitude from whites precisely because Mr. Jackson was so successful at inflaming and exploiting white guilt. Mr. Jackson must now see his own oblivion in the very features of Mr. Obama's face. Thus the on-camera threat of castration, followed by the little jab of his fist as if to deliver a stiletto of his own.

And then Mr. Obama took it further by going to the NAACP with a message of black responsibility -- this after his speech on the need for black fathers to take responsibility for the children they sire. "Talking down to black people," Mr. Jackson mumbled.

Normally, "black responsibility" is a forbidden phrase for a black leader -- not because blacks reject responsibility, but because even the idea of black responsibility weakens moral leverage over whites. When Mr. Obama uses this language, whites of course are thankful. Black leaders seethe.

Nevertheless, Mr. Obama's sacrifice of black leverage has given him a chance to actually become the president. He has captured the devotion of millions of whites in ways that black leveragers never could. And the great masses of blacks -- blacks outside today's sclerotic black leadership -- see this very clearly.

Until Mr. Obama, any black with a message of black responsibility would be called a "black conservative" and thereby marginalized. After Obama's NAACP speech, blacks flooded into the hotel lobby thanking him for "reminding" them of their responsibility.

Thomas Sowell, among many others, has articulated the power of individual responsibility as an antidote to black poverty for over 40 years. Black thinkers as far back as Frederick Douglas and Booker T. Washington have done the same. Why then, all of a sudden, are blacks willing to openly embrace this truth -- and in the full knowledge that it will weaken their leverage with whites?

I think the answer is that Mr. Obama potentially offers them something far more profound than mere moral leverage. If only symbolically, he offers nothing less than an end to black inferiority. This has been an insidious spiritual torment for blacks because reality itself keeps mockingly proving the original lie. Barack Obama in the Oval Office -- a black man governing a largely white nation -- would offer blacks an undreamed-of spiritual solace far more meaningful than the petty self-importance to be gained from moral leverage.

But white Americans have also been tormented by their stigmatization as moral inferiors, as racists. An Obama presidency would give them considerable moral leverage against this stigma.

So it has to be acknowledged that, on the level of cultural and historical symbolism, an Obama presidency might nudge the culture forward a bit -- presuming of course that he would be at least a competent president. (A less-than-competent black president would likely be a step backwards.)

It would be a good thing were blacks to be more open to the power of individual responsibility. And it would surely help us all if whites were less cowed by the political correctness on black issues that protects their racial innocence at the expense of the very principles that made America great. We Americans are hungry for such a cultural shift.

This, no doubt, is what Barack Obama means by "change." He promises to reconfigure our exhausted cultural arrangement.

But here lies his essential contradiction: His campaign is more cultural than political. He sells himself more as a cultural breakthrough than as a candidate for office.

To be a projection screen for the cultural aspirations of both blacks and whites one must be an invisible man politically. Real world politics, in their mundanity, interrupt cultural projections. And so Mr. Obama's political invisibility -- a charm that can only derive from a lack of deep political convictions -- may well serve his cultural appeal, but it also makes him something of a political mess.

Already he has flip-flopped on campaign financing, wire-tapping, gun control, faith-based initiatives, and the terms of withdrawal from Iraq. Those enamored of his cultural potential may say these reversals are an indication of thoughtfulness, or even open-mindedness. But could it be that this is a man who trusted so much in his cultural appeal that the struggles of principle and conscience never seemed quite real to him?

His flip-flops belie an almost existential callowness toward principle, as if the very idea of permanent truth is passé, a form of bad taste.

John McCain is simply a man of considerable character, poor guy. He is utterly bereft of cultural cachet. Against an animating message of cultural "change," he is retrogression itself. Worse, Mr. Obama's trick is to take politics off the table by moving so politically close to his opponent that only culture is left to separate them. And, unencumbered as he is by deep attachment to principle, he can be both far-left and center-right. He can steal much of Mr. McCain's territory.

Mr. Obama has already won a cultural mandate to the American presidency. And politically, he is now essentially in a contest with himself. His challenge is not Mr. McCain; it is the establishment of his own patriotism, trustworthiness and gravitas.

He has to channel a little Colin Powell, and he no doubt hopes his trip to the Middle East and Europe will reflect him back to America with something of Mr. Powell's stature. He wants even Middle America to feel comfortable as the mantle they bestow on him settles upon his shoulders.

Obama, the Narcissist at the "Wailing Wall"

The word Narcissist is derived from the Greek myth of Narcissus. Narcissus was a handsome Greek youth who rejected the desperate advances of the nymph Echo. As punishment, he was doomed to fall in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. Unable to consummate his love, Narcissus pined away and changed into the flower that bears his name, the narcissus. Senator Barack Obama should also bear the name NarcissusFor a few days people have been sniping at the Jr. Senator from Illinois, saying that he thinks he is already president, they are wrong.

Yesterday when he visited the Kotel (the "Wailing Wall" ) he proved that he thinks he is already GOD. He took the Holiest Place in the world to the Jews, and one of the holiest place to Christians and turned it into a crass campaign stop.This is not about the gallery of press surrounding him. This is about the disgusting display of campaign posters Set up by his staff for his visit.

Jerusalem police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld confirmed the campaign posters that adorned police barricades erected at the Western Wall plaza for Obama's visit were distributed by the presidential candidate's campaign.

"These posters were his campaign and not the doing of the police," said Rosenfeld, whose police department coordinated security and provided protection for Obama's visit today to the holy site. Asked if it was traditional practice for politicians visiting the Western Wall to bring along posters or campaign materials, Rosenfeld replied, "No." Source

Of COURSE NO. Does the Senator Really think he is bigger than GOD? Or is it that he has no respect for the Jewish faith. Lets face it, no one in their right mind would EVER have their staff bring campaign posters to the Vatican, or to Mecca. Maybe its just that he sees religion as a political tool rather than something to foster a relationship with your maker. That is why he stayed at Jeremiah Wright's Church for 20 years, not to listen to those hateful words but to get votes.

I would Imagine the first thing he would do if elected is change the Pledge of Allegiance from "one nation under God" to "one nation under Obama"Folks this guy is so filled with self-importance, not only is he ill-suited to be president, he is DANGEROUS.

WASHINGTON - Throw the flag against: Barack Obama.

Call: Intentional grounding.

What happened: Obama on Wednesday was speaking to reporters in Israel when he tried to boast about what he'd done to protect Israel.

"Just this past week, we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee - which is my committee - a bill to call for divestment from Iran as a way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don't obtain a nuclear weapon," Obama said.

Why that's wrong: Obama is not a member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee.

Ironically, a man who traveled with Obama to the Mideast this week, Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., is a member of the committee. He was one of the "no" votes when the committee passed the bill July 17 on a vote of 19-2.

Penalty: Perhaps Obama was thinking that as the presumptive leader of his party, all of the Senate committees are his, as President Lyndon Johnson once quipped, when told he was heading toward the wrong military helicopter, that they all were his. Obama's Johnsonian hubris sets his credibility back 10 yards, and he loses a down in this offensive series.

Eighteen million people voted in the Democratic Primary for Sen. Hillary Clinton. A majority of those voters believe the nomination was stolen from her by the DNC and people like Howard Dean, Donna Brazille, and Nancy Pelosi. The Hillary voters believe Barack Obama is inexperienced, unqualified, untrustworthy, and even dangerous. His plan to "invade" Pakistan, an ally and one with nuclear weapons, is one of the most bizarre statements ever made by a presidential candidate. Hard to Be Humble

For a while now, one of the strongest narratives working against Barack Obama has been the notion that he is an elitist and too full of himself. Hillary Clinton exploited this angle to the best of her ability in the primaries, and the narrative has only strengthened in the general election as the Obama campaign has made move after move that display varying degrees of arrogance: the faux seal, the move to Invesco stadium, the aborted attempt to speak at Brandenburg Gate, etc.

Knowing that Americans tend not to like candidates who are too full of themselves, you would think Obama and his surrogates would be focused on trying to muster at least a modicum of humility in their dealings with the public and the press. But apparently not.

Jim Geraghty highlights another small but telling example of the Obama campaign's self regard, this time by foreign policy advisor Susan Rice in an interview with Der Spiegel:

SPIEGEL: "Critics say the trip is nothing but a PR stunt to strengthen his foreign-policy credentials and that he has only rarely been to Europe before.

Rice: Senator Obama has travelled to Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South Asia many times before. He lived in Asia. He bows to nobody in his understanding of this world."

Intentional or not, the phrase "he bows to nobody" is the kind of tone deaf rhetoric that reinforces the narrative about Obama's arrogance.Far more telling than what a surrogate says publicly, however, is what the candidate himself says privately. And the Der Spiegel item reminded me of this post by Netscape founder and internet wunderkind Marc Andreessen. The post is dated March 3, 2008, but in it Andreessen recounts a conversation he had with Senator Obama in early 2007 as he was gearing up to run for President.

Near the end, Andreessen asked Obama directly about his lack of foreign policy experience, and this is how Obama responded:We then asked, well, what about foreign policy -- should we be concerned that you just don't have much experience there?

He said, directly, two things.First, he said, I'm on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where I serve with a number of Senators who are widely regarded as leading experts on foreign policy -- and I can tell you that I know as much about foreign policy at this point as most of them.

Just who is Obama comparing himself to with this remark? Senators on the Foreign Relations Committee who would fit the description of "widely regarded as leading experts on foreign policy" include Joe Biden (34 years on the Committee), Dick Lugar (28 years), Chris Dodd (26 years), and Chuck Hagel (10 years). Together those gentlemen have nearly 100 years worth of experience on the Foreign Relations Committee, compared to Obama's three.

Notice that Obama didn't say "I'm a quick study" or "I have real world foreign policy experience," or any of the hundreds of other things he might have said to impart to Andreessen that he was a smart, capable guy when it came to foreign affairs while still maintaining some humility.

The second half of Obama's response to Andreessen was equally telling:He said -- and I'm going to paraphrase a little here: think about who I am -- my father was Kenyan; I have close relatives in a small rural village in Kenya to this day; and I spent several years of my childhood living in Jakarta, Indonesia. Think about what it's going to mean in many parts of the world -- parts of the world that we really care about -- when I show up as the President of the United States. I'll be fundamentally changing the world's perception of what the United States is all about.Put another way,

Obama responded to a question about concerns over his lack of foreign policy experience by saying, "it's not what I've done but who I am that matters."

Taken together, this response smacks of an unusually high self regard. As Charles Krauthammer wrote on Friday, "For the first few months of the campaign, the question about Obama was: Who is he? The question now is: Who does he think he is?"

Humility is a virtue not always consistent with running for President. It is one thing to be confident in one's abilities, and another thing to be overbearing to the point of arrogance. This is one of the traits that many of George W. Bush's critics find most grating.

But Obama and his campaign appear to be deliberately taking things to a whole new level. Given his defeat of Hillary in the primary and his current small but steady lead over McCain, you have to say it's a strategy that has worked well for them on balance thus far. Whether the same attitude and approach continues to help or begins to hurt between now and November remains to be seen.

Barack's Senate Experience a Little Thin . . .

Obama’s Senate Experience: 143 days

Barack Obama logged exactly 143 days of experience in the U.S. Senate before setting his sights on winning the White House.

Obama was sworn in as a senator on Jan. 4, 2005, and he announced that he was forming a presidential exploratory committee on Jan. 16, 2007. In that interval, the Senate was in session and working for 143 days, according to GOPUSA’s blog The Loft.

That’s the equivalent of less than 21 seven-day weeks.

“After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be commander in chief, leader of the free world, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan,” Cheri Jacobus writes on the blog.

In contrast, presidential rival John McCain’s resume includes 26 years in Congress and 22 years of military service, including his 1,966 days as a POW in Vietnam.

If you listened to Barack Obama (and Hillary Clinton) on the campaign trail, you heard some scary things. They portray “too many Americans’ as one step away from economic and social disaster. They see as people badly in need of major assistance – their assistance.

John McCain, imperfect as he may be, sees a very different America. It’s the same country whose liberties he was willing to give his life for in Viet Nam. We may not agree with him on every issue, but we can’t disagree that a love for liberty is at the central core of this man’s being.

Even Bill Clinton has said of McCain: “He’s given everything he has to his country – except his life.” President Clinton has never spoken truer words.In contrast to McCain, Obama essentially portrays America as something resembling Matthew Arnold’s “Dover Beach,” where “ignorant armies clash by night.”

As “Lexington" in The Economist describes Obama’s world-view, America is “a coalition of groups that define themselves as victims of social and economic forces, and . . . [where] its leaders encourage people to feel helpless and aggrieved . . .”If Obama becomes President, we would become a society of “victims,” all of us clamoring for the government to bail us out of our misery. That would be a disaster not only for libertarians, but for all Americans.

I hope all libertarians do the right thing: voting for John McCain. Also, ask your friends and family members to do the same thing.

The future of liberty in this society depends on free people standing up and supporting a man who has devoted his entire life to defending American values and liberties. John McCain is the right man for our cause.
